Exploring Life & Business with Katie Paterson of Katie Paterson Massage & Stretch Therapist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Paterson.

Hi Katie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I became a massage therapist in 2019. I was at a point in my life where I needed a career change and wanted to be fulfilled in what I did after I came home from work. I had the most amazing massage therapist when I lived in Pennsylvania. I referred all my friends and family to her and was so grateful she was there to fix my body when I felt like “Humpty Dumpty.” I really wanted to be able to be that for my clients where they had someone they trusted with their healing process and have a safe space to lay on the table when they just need a little self care.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road but it was a worthy one. Shortly after I got licensed the covid 19 pandemic hit and I was furloughed from the spa I worked at. When I returned to work the world was a scary place and I realized quickly the importance of touch, energy, and connection. In 2021 when restrictions started to lift and I got my footing underneath me I really felt the pull to go into business for myself. I started growing my business doing outcalls and putting away my earnings to open my own location. In spring of 2023 I started renting a room part time in Round Rock, and in August of 2024 I moved into downtown historic Round Rock opening “Katie Paterson Massage & Stretch Therapy”

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I primarily do deep tissue work and specialize on clients who suffer from headaches, and neck and shoulder pain. I offer a hodgepodge of modalities including fascial stretching therapy, swedish massage, craniosacral therapy, and reiki. What sets me apart from other massage therapists is I try and customize every session to what my client needs and blend a variety of techniques to best serve each individual. I’m most proud of how many referrals I have gotten from my clients. I haven’t had to advertise in years because my clients have taken such good care of me referring their friends and family. I love getting to meet all the new people who walk into my office, especially through referrals.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I don’t typically use any forms of media but I like to connect with fellow therapists and do trades where we can teach each other new techniques and brain storm any problems. In my field we need to take 12 hours of credits every 2 years but I try and keep my skills sharp and take closer to 30 hours every year. I have a growing list of classes and modalities I want to learn that I’m always adding.
