Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Grasso.
Hi tony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started working out at 18. My neighbor Don Horn had a gym in his house. But I did not really get serious until I went to college. MY first 2 years I went to Indiana Institute of Technology and built a strong foundation of strength. Then I transferred to Notre Dame where I received notoriety as an accomplished power lifter I could squat 475 for 5 at a body weight of 175. Notre Dame observer wrote and article on me. ” Grasso Weights For Chance. In 1975 I planned on setting a new collegiate record and the Power Lifting Collegiate Nationals in Merryville Mo. but I bombed out. That was frustrating.
After college I moved to El Paso texas and continued powerlifting. In 1976 In the region 10 AAU meet I tool 3rd squating 525, Bench 335 and deadlifted 505. By todays standers no very impressive. I walked away from powerlifting since I realized thtat unless I took steriods I could not be competitive.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
