Hi TJ, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From the moment he could toddle, TJ Thompson was immersed in the world of pool construction as the son of Cascade’s founders. Job sites became his playgrounds, where he absorbed creativity, craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail.
For over 20 years, TJ has built a reputation as a leader in pool design and construction, with award-winning projects recognized internationally. His career began in the trenches of construction during college summers and quickly advanced into project management, design, and sales.
After studying in Colorado, TJ returned to Austin, Texas—his hometown and Cascade’s base—where he pioneered 3D pool design, pushing the company and the industry forward. A lifelong learner, TJ continually studies the art and science of watershaping, ensuring his work reflects both innovation and timeless design.
He holds numerous credentials, including an Associate designation from the Genesis School of Watershape Designers and Verified Watershape Professional accreditation from Watershape University, along with multiple manufacturer certifications. These achievements highlight his dedication to staying at the forefront of the trade and delivering work that meets the highest standards.
At the crossroads of tradition and innovation, TJ Thompson stands as a visionary in pool design. His career is a testament to passion, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to excellence—transforming backyards into extraordinary living environments that inspire and endure.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

For over 40 years, Cascade Custom Pools has been building an excellent reputation for fine pool construction in Austin and the surrounding communities. We have been owned and managed by Hank Thompson since our inception in 1982. Cascade is a very hands-on, locally owned business.
We pride ourselves on producing creative and functional projects that are engineered to last a lifetime.

How do you define success?
For me, success is waking up most days feeling proud of the life you’ve built and the direction you’re heading. It’s knowing your work has meaning, your family and friends are cared for, and you’re growing in ways that matter to you. It doesn’t mean everything’s perfect—it just means you’re building something you believe in and enjoying the ride along the way.
