Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesa Rossick.
Hi Lesa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
“Live life to the fullest, because you never know what tomorrow will bring” was something I learned at an early age. I was diagnosed with Adeno Carcinoma at the age of 30 and was told I only had three months to live without surgery. Work, Success, Money and the dream of having a family were my obsessions at this time of my life, and those earthly things quickly dissolved when confronted with life and death. Due to the extensive surgeries, I lost my chance to ever have children, but I gained everything….a peaceful, blessed life full of joy. Today, 22 years later…my life is full of friends, family, travel and so many blessings, I can’t even count them all. I married my soul mate at the age of 34, worked 25 years in an amazing career of selling medical devices, and after retirement, I started a fun hobby of blogging about local Austin restaurants. Being a Midwest Girl from a small town in Iowa, Farm to Table was in my blood from an early age. In fact, both sets of grandparents harvested and maintained gardens until the age of 90.
Throughout the years, my husband and I have been blessed to travel & eat around the globe, live overseas in Australia, and also the amazing NYC, where we learned the power of buying from local farmers and artisans. All of these experiences brought Keep Austin Eatin’ to life, dedicated to honoring our local restaurants, farmers, chefs and their teams. Today, this small little hobby has turned into a team of 5 women, 77,000+ followers and this past year, was able to collaborate with 130 restaurants and Baylor, Scott & White to feed thousands of healthcare workers. I also launched a Digital Marketing Company building brands, developing websites and empowering others to navigate the social media platforms. In my personal life, since my husband and I don’t have any children, we have dedicated our lives to helping out local children through philanthropic efforts. I truly try to live Present Over Perfect. If I haven’t had a chance to meet you yet, I look forward to our pathways crossing in the future. This is a big city with a small town feel. Don’t you agree?
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I love being an Entrepreneur for the flexibility it has allowed for my life; although, it has not been easy. I didn’t earn a single dollar for almost six months, and I have had to learn the courage to let go. I’ve had to humble myself and admit my failures, which has caused my companies to evolve. I’ve also learned the hard way…without pruning, I cannot grow. I was on the road, traveling up to 6 days a week when I worked corporate. Yes, I miss being Platinum level on airlines, but I barely got to see my family and friends. Today, being Present over Perfect is tested almost daily. I would choose being home with my family over having millions of dollars and a big title behind my name, any day of the week! Can I hear a Hallelujah?
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I love to develop and design brands for companies, big and small. My services range from rebranding a logo to designing and developing a website from scratch for surgeons, medical spas to personal accounts. My favorite part of my job is to empower others. Even if they don’t know what a hashtag is or have never tweeted in their lives, I can help them navigate the different platforms. It’s so much fun to see someone go from fear of the unknown to actually enjoying jumping into the social media realm. I truly love helping others!
Any big plans?
My husband and I bought an Airstream, and one of our favorite things in life is to travel. Hiking is our favorite past times, and we thrive in being adventurous. Our long-term goal is to have more time and freedom to spend exploring more of the US with our dog, Luna. Without a schedule and without a care in the world…sounds like pure Heaven. After a little exploring on our own, we both have a desire to serve in International Missions to help others across the globe. It’s a broken world, and we want to do as much as we can while we’re here.
