Exploring Life & Business with Alexis of Forty Five Boxing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis.

Alexis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My fiancé and I (girlfriend at the time) first started Forty Five Boxing out of a small studio-like room in Kyle TX. The idea to open a boxing gym had always been rooted in my mind since I started boxing 14 years ago. Of course opening your own gym comes with a lot of learning curves and other needed skills outside of knowing how to box. Luckily we had those skills and with the support of my fiancé we set out a game plan that would help me achieve my goal and within 6 months of starting our gym we had enough members and capital to transition from a 800 sqft studio location into a 2,000 sqft facility.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the road hasn’t always been smooth. We started the gym with very limited capital and resources. That meant no loans or handouts. Running a boxing gym is rewarding in the sense you get to help change peoples lives but it comes with its challenges as well. Our small yellow room didn’t become a fully furnished boxing gym overnight. It took hours of hard work, faith in what we were doing and constant persistence. In the end we are grateful for the supportive community we attracted because without them we wouldn’t have made it here.

As you know, we’re big fans of Forty Five Boxing. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Forty Five Boxing is a boxing gym that aims to build character and discipline along with real boxing skills. We are neither a fight gym nor a boutique-fitness club. We are a boxing gym built on hard work, good sportsmanship, and respect. Our training programs and routines are personalized for our members. These programs and routines are meant to help get them in great shape while at same time prepare them for full contact sparring and even a boxing competition (if that is there goal). Having skilled and talented boxers who are not only formidable in the boxing ring but at the same time humble, kind and respectful is one of the things we are most proud of. You don’t have to have a chip on your shoulder or carry a bad attitude in order to be a good boxer, or even have a rugged looking gym to be a “real boxing gym”. You need discipline, work ethic, great coaches and a supportive environment to reach higher limits.

How do you think about happiness?
Spending time with my dogs, family, and being outdoors makes me happy.
