Today we’d like to introduce you to Markeisha “Tooo Sauccy” Hubbard.
Hi Markeisha “Tooo Sauccy”, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out on the traditional college path. Deep down, I knew it wasn’t for me, but I gave it a fair shot. After about a year and a half, it just didn’t work out. I decided to return home and enroll in culinary school instead. I had been cooking with my mom since a kid and knew that was my true passion.
After graduating from my culinary program, life threw me a curveball. I was in a car accident that completely shifted my direction as it happened right after I’d been accepted into an apprenticeship. Recovery took time, but during that period, I decided to start my own brand: Tooo Sauccy. What began as a personal dream has now grown into a family business. My wife works alongside me as my kitchen assistant and manager, and even our son, affectionately known as Lil Sauccy, is part of the team, he’s even created his own drink on the menu !
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of my biggest challenges, which I now see as a blessing in disguise, was moving to Austin in 2021. Adjusting to a brand-new city with a completely different culture and culinary scene wasn’t easy. Things ran much differently than they did back in California. On top of that, I was caring for my wife, who was sick at the time, while raising our son and often bringing him to work with me because we didn’t know anyone yet. It was tough, but we powered through together as a family..
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I don’t just cook, I feed souls. I create memories, spread love, and share laughter through food. My passion lies in making everything taste good. I love taking “nothing” and turning it into something special. When people say there’s nothing to eat, I see it as a challenge to create a five-star meal from what’s there.
I’m most proud of myself for staying true to who I am, for following my dreams and never letting anyone steer me away from my purpose. What truly sets me apart is that I cook from love, not for money. I live by the motto: “We all gotta eat.” I’ll feed anyone who’s hungry and never expect a dime in return.
