Hidden Gems: Meet Faith/Ania Salais/Prieto of Sugar and Salt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith/Ania Salais/Prieto.

Hi Faith/Ania, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started working together in a bakery about 4 years ago. I was finishing school and Ania was our mixer (the best mixer, in my opinion). We literally worked across a table from each other, everyday, so naturally we became fast friends. We both shared the love of baking but agreed we wanted more than our day jobs were offering. We wanted to establish our own bakery one day. One that values nature and scratch baking, while being affordable and comfortable. Sugar and Salt is the product of this dream. We always pair our sweets with plant arrangements and encourage the beauty you can find in the everyday plants that surround your life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Sugar and Salt is sincerely a labor of love. We both still hold full time jobs. We spend most of our excess time recipe testing, baking, decorating, thrifting and selling at local markets. Time is always our biggest obstacle.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
We didn’t know each other growing up but we do share a lot of similarities looking back. We’ve both always been independent. We can do it ourselves or we’ll figure out how quickly. We both were the bakers for our families growing up. We both have a desire to take care of people. Plants and baking are our way of caring for people.

Pricing:

  • Sweets range from $3-6 individuals
  • Plants $8 and up
