Daily Inspiration: Meet Paul Roach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Roach.

Hi Paul, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started for me when I went to a boarding military high school 8 hours away from home away from all my friends and family. While trying to discover my new life here, I wandered into the art room and met Mr. Freeman who would ultimately change the course of my life. He taught me about art and how to create and sparked my passion for it. I had never really been much of an artist before this boarding school but after starting, I couldn’t stop. I ended up going to Loyola University New Orleans where I would graduate with a degree in Studio Art. This is also where I ended up discovering my love for painting murals and started my tattoo apprenticeship. To this day I still paint murals regularly and tattoo full time and don’t think i can see myself ever doing anything else.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There will always be challenges in any project or experience but what matters is how you overcome them. Of course there were challenges and frustrating moments along the way but I kept pushing forward and now I get to make art for a living!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I typically don’t tell people I specialize in one thing because I don’t like to put myself under one blanket if that makes sense. What I do tell them is that I’m extremely interested In Japanese tattooing and culture and have a passion for creating art within that realm. I really enjoy the story telling and the imagery of Japanese Art and will actually be going to spend a month over in Japan this October which I’m really excited about.

What matters most to you?
I don’t do what I do for the money. If I wanted to make money, I would trade stocks or buy real estate. What matters most to me within tattooing and art is bringing enjoyment to peoples lives in a world that seems like its falling apart more and more everyday. Art is one of the only things that connects us all and being a part of that is an honor I am thankful for everyday.
