Inspiring Conversations with Jessica Beauvoir of Yarrow & Sage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Beauvoir.

Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first got into herbalism and witchcraft over ten years ago. I began by making tinctures and body care products for myself before deciding I would like to do it professionally. When I moved to Austin 6 years ago, I started making things to sell at local markets.

It wasn’t long before I met some like-minded crafters, merged my interests, and organized the first Austin Witches Market. It was from this growing group of magic makers that I developed the concept for Yarrow & Sage. I organized a system, approached some friends as co-organizers, and we opened the shop as a collective effort with just over a dozen people involved. That was in Fall 2018, and the shop has been adapting and growing ever since! These days I am focusing on a cohesive union of my botanical products, the witches markets, and the storefront – we just started hosting the monthly witches’ market and I am in the process of rebranding my original herbal products to be the Yarrow & Sage brand. We are also working towards developing a fully stocked online shop so we can bring all the local makers we have to everyone in the country.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with any business, our first year open presented a lot of learning curves! Then our second year was mainly influenced by covid – we shut down for two months and completely redid our system in order to accommodate. Thankfully, I consider myself nothing if not adaptable, so I have always been willing to figure out what works best and change how things are done. I feel like new challenges are always presenting themselves, like the most recent being the online shop! Getting over 30 people’s products into a website is proving to be very time-consuming, but I know it’s the best course of action for future success. We had to reorganize our system a bit more in order to account for this new endeavor, but as I said – always moving forward!

We’ve been impressed with Yarrow & Sage, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Yarrow & Sage is unique in that we offer a wide variety of locally handmade metaphysical art, tools, supplies, and herbal products – in addition to a curated selection of books, tarot decks, candles, incense, and other accessories. We are proud to feature over 30 local artists and herbalists in our space! I’m also very excited to launch the rebrand of our original botanical blends which will include magical, elemental, and wellness teas, essential oil rollers, sprays, and soy wax candles – to name a few.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Bringing magic into people’s lives! Magic has been very empowering for me – I love the light, mystery, and connectivity that I witness on a daily basis as a result. I think by sharing our creations with others, we remind them of their inherent ability to create as well. Whether it is a piece of art that speaks to someone’s divine nature or an herbal tea that warms their spirit – I believe that helping others to strengthen their will and intentions creates a more magical world for us all to live in.
