We’re looking forward to introducing you to Katy Whitt. Check out our conversation below.
Katy, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
In the first 90 minutes, I ease into the day with my two pups—Kaiser, our 9-year-old Blue Heeler, and Kallie, our 10-month-old Mini Australian Shepherd. I let them out, give them a few minutes of play, and then pour a cup of hot tea while I catch the morning news. I’m at my desk by about the one-hour mark.
I start with a focused inbox sweep, addressing client emails, overnight vendor updates, and any timeline questions that require prompt answers. I review the upcoming weddings and flag the most time-sensitive items—such as final confirmations, timeline adjustments, and any day-of logistics that could impact setup or cueing. Then I set my top three priorities for the day and send a few quick check-in messages so everyone has what they need. It’s a calm, intentional start that sets the tone for a well-run event.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Katy, founder of Katy Gee Consultants, a veteran-owned, full-service wedding and event planning company based in Seguin and serving the Texas Hill Country and beyond. After 21 years in the U.S. Air Force with the last 8 years as a Medical Logistics Planner—and a decade of photographing weddings—I built a studio that combines military-level organization with genuine hospitality. Our motto is simple: we help people celebrate well.
What sets us apart is our one-stop model. Alongside planning, timelines, and day-of execution, we offer licensed bartending through At Your Service Bartenders by Katy Gee (fresh-juice mocktails/cocktails), catering via Whitt Catering by Katy Gee, décor rentals, and invitation design with RSVP tracking. Couples—especially those planning from out of state—love having one calm, accountable lead for every moving part.
We’re also developing Whitt Ranch Hideaway, our private-property escape for showers, photos, and intimate gatherings, with an Airbnb-style stay coming online. Current favorites include signature mocktail menus, curated grazing tables, and streamlined planning packages tailored to each couple’s pace and budget.
The name “Katy Gee” is a tribute to my mom, Linda, who we lost very unexpectedly in 2018. My full name is Kathryn Geneva, and she called me ‘Katy G’—so every event carries that legacy of care, clarity, and heart.”
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me everything I know about work. In our home, nothing was handed to you; if you wanted something, you set a goal, rolled up your sleeves, and earned it. They modeled showing up early, keeping your word, doing the unglamorous jobs, and finishing what you start.
That mindset carried me through 21 years in the Air Force and now into Katy Gee Consultants—where it looks like triple-checking timelines, advocating for clients, loading a truck at 6 a.m., and staying late to sweep confetti.
For me, hard work isn’t about hustle for hustle’s sake; it’s about integrity, service, and pride in a job done right. Their lesson was simple: dedicate yourself, do the work, and life will meet you halfway.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could whisper one thing to my younger self, it would be this: you’re not behind—you’re being built. Lead with kindness and integrity, ask for help sooner, and rest without guilt. The grit you’re practicing will become your superpower, and one day you’ll use it to help people celebrate well. Mom’s voice is right: do the work, and life will meet you halfway.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Lie: “You don’t need a Day-of coordinator.”
Truth: You do need at least a Day-of (Event Management) coordinator—because “day-of” actually starts 4–8 weeks before your wedding. A coordinator builds the master timeline, confirms vendors, approves floor plans, and creates cue sheets so the day runs on time and on budget. On the wedding day, they become the single point of contact for every vendor, cue the processional and formalities, solve problems in real-time (such as weather pivots, late deliveries, or power issues), and protect your guests’ experience.
Keeps you present: Family and friends enjoy the day instead of working it.
Prevents costly mistakes: Avoids venue fines and overtime fees by managing setup windows, noise cutoffs, and vendor break/meal timing.
Protects compliance & safety: Oversees venue rules, alcohol service standards, fire codes, and emergency plans.
Preserves the timeline (and the photos): Coordinates hair/makeup, catering, DJ, and photography so that light, food, and moments all align.
Quality control & pack-out: Styles personal décor as planned, handles last-minute fixes, and ensures gifts and keepsakes get home safely.
Without a coordinator, minor delays cascade—cold entrées, missed golden-hour photos, long bar lines, confused vendors calling the bride. With one, you get calm, clarity, and a joyful, well-run celebration. If full planning isn’t in the budget, invest in Event Management at a minimum.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in the quiet five minutes after an event ends—the music fades, candles are out, and the room exhales. Vendors are checked out on time, the timeline is landed, gifts are secured, and my team is loading the last bin. That’s when the couple (and often their parents) grab my hands and say, ‘Thank you—you made this easy.’ In that moment, I know we protected their joy and handled the hard parts so they could be fully present. That calm, grateful hush at the end of the night—that’s my peace.
