Today we’d like to introduce you to Bob Perez.
Hi Bob, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Bob Perez, I started what is now Stephen Thomas Construction in June of 2019. I was born and raised in San Antonio but moved to Austin in 2003 to attend UT and I’ve been here ever since. I left an 11 year career in market research and consulting to work for myself and fell in love with building. We started off doing mainly commercial work but market forces pushed is towards more residential work. We specialize in additions remodels and new builds but also love to work with passionate business owners for light commercial/tenant finish out projects.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been smooth at all haha. We’ve had a ton of challenges I’ve made almost every mistake an entrepreneur can make along my journey. I partnered with the wrong/bad people, I scaled too fast, the list goes on and on but we couldn’t be prouder of what we have been able to accomplish and what the future holds.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
There is a quote I’ve heard that I very much believe to be true and that’s that luck is the intersection of preparation and opportunity. I think so much of our success to this point has been by chance but I think it has a lot to do with how much we put ourselves out there. I’m never afraid to reach out to a new architect, designer, engineer or attend a networking event and drop my elevator pitch 100 times. I’ve been so lucky that in doing so we’ve been able to work with some incredible clients, architects, etc.
