Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Brown.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I lived with my grandparents as a kid because my father passed when I was a baby and my mother passed when I was 8 years old. So when I was about 10 my grandpa made me start going to work with him mowing lawns in the East Austin area. When I got to high school I stopped working with my grandpa and started selling dr*gs. I had my son at 19 and I was a full time dr*g dealer by then. By 23 I had already caught a federal conspiracy charge. After doing 4 years in prison I got out and my mentor convinced me to start MK Larn Solutions. The rest is history.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Not having some of the resources that I see other people be blessed to have such as parents who help guide their decisions and help fund their ventures has slowed my progress. And also not knowing business and having to wing it along the way. I have invested into business coaches and courses.
We’ve been impressed with MK Lawn Solutions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MK Lawn Solutions specializes in landscaping and tree trimming. Our core services are mowing, tree/shrub trimming, property cleanups mulch beds. I have learned to build a personal brand that the people love and it has translated to building a standout business brand along the way. MK Lawn Solutions is a legacy building company with my son being part of the operations and looking to take over the company.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have a lot of cousins so being the only child wasn’t even a thought on my mind. We grew up old school where all of the parents dropped their kids off at my grandmas house everyday. Those are unforgettable memories!
