Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizeth Katz Pallagi.
Hi Lizeth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The Story Behind Rhythm House ATX
Owning a dance studio was always a dream—one that felt distant, uncertain, and almost impossible. Yet today, Rhythm House ATX stands as a testament to perseverance, community, and the belief that passion can build something extraordinary.
My journey with my co-owners, Lisa and Travis, began in 2019 at a local dance studio in Austin. I had joined their advanced salsa team, and from the start, their talent and leadership inspired me. With a lifelong background in dance and a dance degree, I decided to apply to teach at the same studio. I was fortunate to be hired, and together we spent years teaching, performing, planning events, and building a vibrant community.
When the studio closed during the pandemic, we found ourselves at a crossroads. Instead of stepping away from dance, we dared to imagine something bigger: opening our own studio in South Austin, the area where we had been rooted for years. Encouraged by friends, students, and industry professionals, we took a leap of faith.
The space we found had previously been a preschool—and we had just one month to transform it into a dance studio. What followed was an intense, whirlwind renovation that at times felt like we were living inside our own home-improvement TV show. Every day brought a new challenge: walls coming down, unexpected repairs, fresh coats of paint, flooring to install, and mirrors to mount. Travis, our resident handyman, took on every task with incredible skill and determination. With the help of family, friends, and loyal students, the preschool gradually disappeared and a studio began to emerge.
When the dust finally settled, Rhythm House ATX was born—a space created not just by three owners, but by a community that believed in us.
Today, we are incredibly proud of what we’ve built. Rhythm House ATX is more than a place to dance—it’s a home for connection, creativity, growth, and joy. And knowing that we transformed it with our own hands, through what felt like a real-life renovation episode, makes the journey even more meaningful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. None of us knew how to manage or run a business when we started, so we’ve been learning everything as we go. It hasn’t been easy—there’s a lot of responsibility, tough decisions, and long hours. But at the same time, it’s been exciting and fun. Every challenge has pushed us to grow, and seeing our studio come to life makes all the hard moments worth it
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional dancer, performer, instructor, and co-owner of Rhythm House. I’m originally from Monterrey, Mexico, and I began dancing at the age of 5, training in ballet, jazz, modern, flamenco, belly dance, Polynesian, and Latin styles. My passion for dance deepened when I discovered ballroom after moving to Texas, and I later earned a Fine Arts degree in Dance from the University of Texas. I’ve performed at salsa congresses, on Dancing with the Stars Austin, and as a principal ballroom dancer on Paramount’s TV show 1923. I was also a world finalist in UCWDC Country competitions. Beyond performing, I’m deeply committed to teaching and mentoring dancers of all ages, including those with special needs, with an inclusive and inspiring approach. I love empowering students and sharing the transformative joy of dance.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
