Life & Work with TJ Wright of Lampasas

Today we’d like to introduce you to TJ Wright.

Hi TJ, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“My story really started with a simple drive to build—build a better life, build things, and eventually build a business that could truly serve people. I didn’t come from a place where everything was handed to me, so I learned early on that if I wanted something, I had to create it.

I started small, taking on whatever work I could, learning each trade step by step. Over time, I realized two things: I had a natural eye for design and quality, and people trusted me to bring their vision to life. That’s what pushed me to start Blue Springs Pool and Construction.

We grew one project at a time by focusing on craftsmanship, communication, and doing things the right way—even when nobody was watching. As we expanded, I added more services, built a team, and developed systems to operate at a higher level. I’ve continued to challenge myself with new ventures—from outdoor living to concrete, and custom homes.

My journey hasn’t been easy. There were moments where I had to rebuild, rethink, and reinvent. But every challenge shaped me into a stronger leader. Today, I’m proud that our work impacts families, homeowners, and communities across Texas. And I’m still growing—still learning, still aiming higher.

That’s the short version of how I got here: a mix of grit, vision, and the belief that if you take care of people and stay committed to excellence, success follows.”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“Not at all—nothing about this journey has been smooth, and honestly, that’s what shaped me. Building a business in construction and pools means you’re constantly battling challenges: weather delays, cash flow issues, unreliable subcontractors, equipment failures, and the pressure of keeping clients happy through big-ticket projects.

There were moments where we were growing faster than our systems could handle, and I had to learn—sometimes the hard way—how to create processes, delegate, and build a real team instead of trying to do everything myself. I’ve dealt with setbacks, losing money on jobs, and even seasons where the leads slowed down and I had to get extremely strategic to keep the business alive.

But every struggle taught me something. It forced me to innovate, tighten up operations, invest in better communication, and become a stronger leader. Those tough periods built my resilience and pushed me to think bigger. They’re a huge part of why Blue Springs Pools is where it is today.

I don’t think success comes from the absence of struggles—it comes from refusing to let those struggles stop you.”

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
“What I really do—beyond pools, construction, or any of the services we offer—is build relationships. My specialty is connecting with people, understanding what they want, and earning their trust by delivering exactly what I promise. I’ve learned that in this industry, the product matters, but the relationship is what truly drives everything.

Professionally, I lead Blue Springs Pool and Construction, where we design and build custom pools, outdoor living spaces, and high-end backyard environments. But what I’m known for isn’t just the projects—it’s the way I communicate with clients, educate them, and guide them through a process that can normally be overwhelming.

I’m proud that many of our clients end up becoming long-term partners, repeat customers, and even friends. They trust me with big investments because they know I’m honest, straightforward, and always available when they need me. That trust is my real product.

What sets me apart is that I don’t sell by pushing. I sell by listening. I focus on understanding a client’s vision deeply enough that I can help them make the right decisions—sometimes even decisions that are better for them than they are for me. That’s how you build a reputation that lasts.

Whether I’m working with homeowners, builders, realtors, or investors, the foundation is always the same: I lead with transparency, I keep my word, and I genuinely care about the people I work with. That’s why my relationships—and my business—have grown the way they have.”

Who else deserves credit in your story?
“First and foremost, I want to thank Jesus. My faith has carried me through every challenge, every setback, and every opportunity. I wouldn’t be where I am today without God guiding me, protecting me, and giving me the strength to keep going.

On the family side, my wife deserves an enormous amount of credit. She has been my rock, my support system, and the person who believes in me even on the days I doubt myself. She sacrifices a lot so that I can chase these goals, and I’m grateful for her every single day.

I also want to recognize my mom and dad. They taught me the values that built the foundation of who I am—hard work, integrity, grit, and doing right by people. Their encouragement and example shaped the way I lead, the way I treat clients, and the way I run my business.

My team deserves a lot of credit as well. No matter how good you are at sales or relationships, you can’t build a company alone. I’ve had teammates who have shown up every day, handled the details, taken care of customers, and helped create systems that allow us to scale. Their effort is a huge part of our success.

Along the way, I’ve also had informal mentors — people in the industry and business owners in other fields who gave me guidance, shared their experiences, or simply pushed me to think bigger. Each one helped shape the way I lead and the way I operate.

Beyond that, I’ve had incredible clients who trusted me early on, team members who show up and give their best, and mentors who pushed me to think bigger. But my faith, my family and close friends are truly the backbone of everything I’ve built.”

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that success is a team effort. I might be the one steering the ship, but there are a lot of people rowing with me.”
