Rising Stars: Meet Kayla Jathan of South Austin, Tx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Jathan.

Hi Kayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I actually started creating content by accident. I used to take random pictures of my food and the restaurants I went to almost like a diary. No strategy, no plan. I just loved capturing the vibe of the places I ate at. Over time, people started responding to it and asking for recommendations, and I realized there was a real demand for honest, aesthetic, everyday content in Austin.

From there it grew naturally. I leaned into my love for visuals, storytelling, and discovering new spots. Eventually brands and local businesses began reaching out, and that pushed me to treat it more seriously. Now I create with intention, but still with that same diary-style energy. My goal is to make people feel like they’re experiencing the city with me while also helping businesses get seen in a real, authentic way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When you start creating content without a blueprint, you end up figuring out a lot by trial and error. I struggled with consistency, doubting myself, and trying to balance real life with the pressure to constantly post. There were moments where growth felt slow or I questioned whether anyone even cared about what I was sharing.

On top of that, learning the business side, like rates, contracts, brand expectations, was a whole separate challenge. As a one-woman show, you juggle filming, editing, planning, and negotiating all at once. But each challenge pushed me to get more intentional, more confident, and more aligned with my voice.

So no, it hasn’t been smooth, but every struggle taught me something and helped turn a simple hobby into something real.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a content creator, social media manager, and full-time respiratory therapist. I specialize in lifestyle, food, and Austin culture. I’m known for my aesthetic, diary-style videos that highlight local businesses, restaurants, and experiences in a way that feels real and effortless. I don’t do voiceovers, I let the music and the vibe take over so people can feel like they’re actually there with me.

I’m especially proud that I built all of this while working in healthcare. Respiratory therapy is intense and demanding, so creating became my outlet; my way to document joy, beauty, and everyday moments outside the hospital. That balance gives my content a grounded, human perspective that you don’t always see online.

What sets me apart is that my storytelling is authentic. Nothing is forced or overly curated. My audience trusts that what I share is something I genuinely enjoyed, not something I’m pretending to like. I capture moments the same way I live them: honest, aesthetic, and full of energy.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can work with me in a few different ways. I collaborate with restaurants, brands, and local businesses that want aesthetic, authentic content that actually connects with real people. I offer UGC, short-form video creation, social media management, and promo features on my platforms. I’m selective, but I love partnering with places that fit my vibe and genuinely care about their customer experience.

For collaborations or bookings, people can reach out through DM or email. I keep things simple and straightforward. And if someone just wants to support me, the best way is by engaging with my content, sharing my posts, visiting the spots I feature, and tagging me. Every comment, save, or share helps more than people realize.

I built this brand from the ground up, so community support means everything to me.
