Today we’d like to introduce you to Shamycheal Chatman.
Hi Shamycheal, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m very humble beginnings and learned the importance of hard work at a very young age. I grew up playing sports so that instilled discipline and work ethic which carried over into life. I started in the construction industry working as a temp and eventually getting hired on at the company. I was able to grow within the company but was still learning how to lead and the industry as a whole. After staying with that company for about two years I took a job in west Texas where I was transitioned into a superintendent role which was a a bit challenging at the beginning but I was able to find my footing and really be an asset to the company and its productivity. After a year there I got transferred to Austin which was a decision I made pretty quickly and was able to get started at the new office asap and coming in immediately adding value to the location from the experience I had at the previous location. After about a year at the office we had new management come in which was very challenging for us all and the previous employees were getting moved out and new employees were being hired and to have Covid happening I could see the writing on the wall. So after being let go from my position at the company I decided to go out on my own which again was a decision made quickly and hit the ground running. It had been so many challenges I can’t count, I have had success in the industry but I am nowhere near where I want to to be. This next chapter will be awesome because I can take all that I have learned and apply it to my business. I hope to eventually have my office a few more employees working for me and making a impact in the community and the clients that I get a chance to work with.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. It seems each step of the way I am learning more about myself as well as the industry. The thing that keeps me going is one I know I can be successful in the industry and two I enjoy the process of really bringing a vision into reality.
As you know, we’re big fans of MC remodels and construction, LLC.. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
MC remodels and construction is a boutique home remodeling firm. I myself run the day to day and am in charge of budgeting, client relations, vendor relations and hiring subs. We focus on home projects for homeowners. We hope to start building and developing in the near future as well. I am proud of my brand because we are a company that really cares about our customers and the work we deliver for each client. Construction can be a tough industry to be in so we hope to make the experience for our customers as smooth as possible.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is achieving a collective goal and seeing the benefits from the process. Impacting those around you, helping someone else achieve their goals and being a catalyst for productivity.
