We’re looking forward to introducing you to Abby Senger. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Abby, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work I love spending time with my daughter Sage. I enjoy using my time with my family and my close girlfriends. Social connection is what I enjoy most and when I need a moment to myself I enjoy a nice walk outside.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Abby Senger, and I’m the founder of Sunsejoy, a botanical skin recovery brand based in Austin, Texas. I created Sunsejoy out of a personal need for skincare that felt gentler and more supportive for dry, sensitive, and easily irritated skin. The brand focuses on skin hydration using potent botanical oils and butters, with soothing formulas scented only with 100% pure essential oils, created to support the skin’s natural ability to restore balance and maintain a healthy, natural glow.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Becoming a mother has most shaped how I see myself. It has taught me to slow down, to pay attention in new ways, and to lead with patience rather than urgency. Motherhood reshaped me, giving me a deeper drive to seek purpose in my life rather than simply moving from one experience to the next.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me how to slow down and reflect in ways success never has. In difficult moments, I’m often forced to pause, look honestly at what’s happening, and understand both the problem and what’s being asked of me in response. Those experiences tend to ground me, even when they feel uncomfortable at first.
Success, for me, carries a different energy. I celebrate it, but it also moves me forward more quickly. What suffering has taught me is how important balance is. It brings me back into myself, helps me regain steadiness, and ultimately creates the foundation that allows me to move forward with more clarity and intention.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest misconceptions in the skincare industry is that more is always better. More steps, more products, more actives, more urgency. That way of thinking can pull people further away from listening to their skin and understanding what it actually needs.
Another quiet lie is that skin issues need to be fixed quickly rather than supported patiently. In my experience, skin responds best to consistency, simplicity, and time. Healing and recovery are rarely instant, and that’s something the industry doesn’t always leave room for.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in nature, especially in warm, tropical coastal places. There’s something about the warmth of the sun, the rhythm of the ocean, and the openness of the space that naturally quiets me and brings a deep sense of calm and joy. That feeling is where the name Sunsejoy came from. Sun and sea are where I feel most grounded and alive, and together they represent a simple kind of happiness that I return to whenever I need peace and balance.
