Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina and Nidia.
Hi Sabrina and Nidia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 1997, Nidia and her daughter, Sabrina, immigrated from Colombia to the United States, arriving in Miami with their family in search of new opportunities. Jairo, Nidia’s husband and Sabrina’s father, worked a variety of jobs as the family established themselves in their new country. Although he worked tirelessly, none of the roles felt like the right fit, and after several months, the family made the decision to relocate to Texas.
After spending time in both Dallas and Houston, they ultimately settled in North Austin, where they found a place they could truly call home. Jairo began working in the air conditioning industry, while Nidia—who had a background in fashion design in Colombia—quickly secured a full-time position as a local seamstress. Sabrina enrolled in college, majoring in business, and her younger brother, John, continued his education, eventually becoming a standout football player in both middle and high school.
For years, Nidia and Sabrina shared the dream of owning their own business. In 2009, that dream became a reality with the launch of Divine. The business began humbly, operating out of a small bedroom in Nidia and Jairo’s home. The first year was challenging, as mother and daughter worked tirelessly to build their reputation and grow their clientele. They took on every sewing project that came their way—from pillows and curtains to custom home décor—laying the foundation for future success.
Their dedication soon earned wider recognition, including features on the television show Property Brothers and collaborations with notable designers such as Amity Worrell and Paula Abel’s Interiors. Within two years, Divine had grown into a thriving, full-time business known for exceptional craftsmanship and versatility.
Over time, Nidia and Sabrina noticed that bridal and formal gown alterations generated the greatest enthusiasm from clients and the strongest online reviews. This insight led them to specialize exclusively in bridal and formalwear alterations, transforming Divine into a boutique dedicated to serving brides, wedding parties, and formal gown clients—particularly within the pageant industry. Divine has proudly worked with Miss Austin, Miss Texas, and numerous pageant candidates for many years.
Today, with over 15 years in business, Divine is proudly ranked #1 online by Google, WeddingWire, and The Knot. The company continues to receive glowing five-star reviews and heartfelt praise from satisfied clients, a testament to its commitment to excellence, craftsmanship, and personalized service.
