Inspiring Conversations with Felicia Graves of Little Fireflies Pediatric Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia Graves.

Hi Felicia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Little Fireflies really started from seeing a need over and over again in our community. I kept hearing the same frustrations—long waitlists, having to drive far for therapy, and not feeling truly understood or supported.

In Taylor, there just wasn’t a local place where kids could get both speech and occupational therapy. Families were doing the best they could, but the system made it hard. Around the same time, I was involved in community work and running an autism support groups, and I saw how much of a difference it makes when services are built with families, not just for them.

So Little Fireflies was created to fill that gap. We wanted to build something local, welcoming, and centered on kids being exactly who they are. Today, we’re growing into a space that offers therapy, family education, and community connection—all right here in Taylor. It started as a simple idea to help families feel supported, and it’s turned into a bigger mission to change what access and inclusion can look like in our community.

And honestly, we’re just getting started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I don’t think most meaningful things are. One of the biggest challenges has been starting something new in a community where this kind of service didn’t exist before. There’s a lot that goes into building trust, educating people about what neurodivergent-affirming care actually means, and doing it all while navigating funding, regulations, and logistics.

Another challenge has been resources. As a new nonprofit, everything takes time—finding the right professionals, securing space, and raising the funds needed to open sustainably. There were moments where progress felt slow, and I had to remind myself that building it the right way mattered more than building it fast.

But honestly, those challenges also confirmed why Little Fireflies is needed. Every obstacle pointed back to the same thing—families need local, accessible support, and they deserve services that truly see their kids. The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it, and each step forward has strengthened the mission.

We’ve been impressed with Little Fireflies Pediatric Therapy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Little Fireflies Pediatric Therapy is a nonprofit pediatric therapy center based in Taylor that provides speech and occupational therapy for children in a neurodivergent-affirming environment. What we do goes beyond therapy sessions—we focus on supporting the whole family and building a community where kids are accepted, understood, and celebrated for who they are.

We specialize in care that is relationship-based, child-led, and respectful of each child’s unique needs. That means we don’t try to “fix” kids or force them to fit a mold. Instead, we help them build communication, regulation, and daily living skills in ways that work for them. We’re known for creating a welcoming, judgment-free space where families feel heard and kids feel safe.

What really sets Little Fireflies apart is that we’re local, nonprofit, and intentionally built to meet a gap in our community. We are the first pediatric therapy center of our kind in Taylor, offering both speech and occupational therapy in one place with a neurodivergent-affirming approach. We also focus heavily on family education and community inclusion—whether that’s through support groups, accessible events, or partnerships with local organizations.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built before our doors even fully open. Families already see Little Fireflies as a place that understands them and advocates for their kids. Our brand is rooted in empathy, accessibility, and the belief that every child deserves support close to home.

What I want readers to know is that Little Fireflies exists because our community needed it. We’re here to make therapy more accessible, to support families who often feel overlooked, and to show that inclusive, affirming care can exist right here in Taylor. We’re not just providing services—we’re building something that will grow alongside the families we serve.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about our city is the sense of community. Taylor really shows up for each other. Small businesses don’t operate in silos here—they rally together, support one another, and genuinely want to see each other succeed. There’s a strong spirit of collaboration that you don’t find everywhere, and it makes a real difference when you’re building something new.

We’re also incredibly fortunate to have strong, accessible leadership and a Chamber of Commerce that truly invests in people. The Chamber has been a connector, an advocate, and a cheerleader—not just for businesses, but for the community as a whole. That kind of leadership creates an environment where ideas can grow and where people feel encouraged to get involved.
