Meet Clay Jasper of Jasper Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clay Jasper.

Hi Clay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are originally from Houston, Tx, where I was a teacher and my wife worked in finance and accounting. I decided to leave education in the Spring of 2025 and pursue other careers and be at home with our two children more. We visited Austin for Spring Break to visit family – my sister lives in Lakeway and a cousin lived in Steiner Ranch. When we came to visit Steiner, we instantly fell in love with the neighborhood and the area. We decided then that, since I am no longer tied to an area because of a school, we would look for jobs in this area and move out here. My wife quickly found a new job in Bee Cave, so we began plans to move to Steiner. One issue we found was that there was no great coffee anywhere near Steiner, so we decided to be the change we wanted to see in the world and opened Jasper coffee. We partnered with Audra Smith at “A Health and Wellness Shop” to be a pop-up in her shop. We’ve loved serving the community and Steiner has responded very well to having specialty coffee in the neighborhood.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been ups and downs and moments of “why are we doing this?”, but every week is better than the last and we now have a great group of regulars. Some of the struggles are just being at the mercy of the pace of the neighborhood, which is not all bad. A lot of people work from home in this community, so we found our busy times were a little later than other coffee places. We are learning what works for this community and adjusting accordingly.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jasper Coffee?
We are a husband/wife team doing specialty coffee. We focus on quality so we source our beans from an amazing specialty coffee roaster and we make all our syrups in house. Our focus is to be the neighborhood spot where our neighbors can come and enjoy a coffee and see a familiar face. One of our goals is to support and uplift other local business around us as well so we love doing events and collaborations with those in out neighborhood.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We are long-time coffee lovers but we have not been baristas for a long time. Clay was a high school band director for 15 years and Kimberly still has her day job as a finance/data analyst.
