Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Montalvo.
Hi Karen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my beautiful journey in this industry in 2010 at Paul Mitchell – The School – in Austin and instantly fell in love with every aspect. Color theory, hair cutting, the transformations, the relationships you build – all of it! I have been an independent stylist since graduating school and am very excited to now own K&Co Hair Artistry where I’m creating dream hair and building the absolute dream team of other talented artists.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think one of the biggest struggles in this industry is how quickly it evolves. You have to stay on top of education and learning new techniques, new marketing avenues, etc to stay at the top of your game.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a color, haircutting, and extension focused hair stylist and salon owner. I’m sought out most for my blonding services, lived in colors, and extension services. I feel that one of my strong suits is the abiilty to really understand what clients are searching for, even when they have trouble conveying it themselves. I want to know it all – what’s their lifestyle like, what are their hobbies, what is their dream hair. I want to create the best version that flows with their lifestyle so it’s easy to maintain and have beautiful hair for months on end.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m really happy with how everything is, but there’s always room for growth! Next thing for me is hiring a new assistant to work with and train and just continue growing the K&Co team.
