Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our restaurant started as our small office for our Water Softener business, and we decided that we wanted to bring something fun & exciting to our area as we see the direction our area was heading in. The idea of The Thirsty Chicken started from a trip to New Orleans, as we knew we needed to bring the vibe from the colors, music, and tasty Daiquiris & Wings to the Austin area!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening The Thirsty Chicken was DEFINITELY a challenge, as we started the process and opened just when Covid began. Here we are, trying to start a business, and be successful at it, while MANY restaurants were closing down. Since opening, we have still experienced the same challenges with the rise of products. As a small Family owned restaurant, We also do not get the bulk pricing as many of the larger chains receive, but are just as busy. We have always decided that we wanted to offer Fresh, not frozen chicken, which also comes with a higher price point. We continue to struggle with the price hikes, and differences but look forward to a time when we can also receive price reductions with quantity and quality.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a Family owned, and ran restaurant that specializes in Wings, Tenders, Chicken Sandwiches, and our Speciality Daiquiris in over 30 flavors. We also cannot forget about our potato wedge spiral fries, and fried pickles that everyone loves. We have a variety of Bird Bath’s (sauces) to toss your chicken in that don’t disappoint. Besides, our food, People love our environment and the variety of songs we have on our playlist. Songs that make you feel good. We have TV’s to watch your favorite sports team on, as well as board games to play as you chill on either our covered patio, deck, or front area picnic tables. Our restaurant is truly an environment that the entire family can enjoy of any age. We have been voted TOP 5 BEST WINGS in Austin AND surrounding areas by the Austin American Statesman for 3 of the 4 years we have been open. That says a LOTT! We are TRULY the place to visit, and return to over and over again. Just ask our Regular Customers 🙂 We’re truly a VIBE
What are your plans for the future?
We have been offered to franchise since the day we opened our doors, but we are not there just yet. Our plan is to open up a location for each of our 6 children, and then explore franchising. Our first location, we plan to open by the end of 2026 or beginning of 2027 in Pflugerville and keep it going, as we have people who drive far just to eat with us.
