We recently had the chance to connect with D-Soul Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi D-Soul, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Gym Time
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
D-Soul Davis is Texas’s best Soul kept secret! With a smooth tenor-baritone sound. He captivates the audience with earth shaking melodies. With roots coming from Church. He has a sound truly bred and born for Soul, Funk, and Blues. His Forth Coming Album Soul – Rhythm – Rhymes brings all of these genres to the forefront,
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I would see success really happen to people. My cousin Tony Thompson was a prime example of that. When we were young he would let us hear his music before it was released. It was so surreal and not knowing that these songs would be on billboard charts one day! Seeing fame find him and seeing how fast fame can come and go was a very profound time indeed.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely, I remember back in 2015. I had a photographer at my very first show. She took a picture of me when I had this very serious but relieved face. I remember at that exact moment thinking. ” I almost quit before this show seeing my account -200 dollars”. It was a very special moment knowing that I pushed through that very difficult time to be here today 10 years later.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That there’s a lot of money to be made! LOL That’s fiction for sure. This industry is an absolute lifetime investment. From writing, to recording, singing, traveling. It’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff that’s not so glamorous. At times you are the one who’s paying to keep the ship afloat.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I truly made it look easy and fun. I’ve always truly wanted the audience to feel every note and word.
