Exploring Life & Business with Unu Tran of Perspective Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Unu Tran.

Unu Tran

Hi Unu, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I know what it’s like to struggle with injuries.

Back when was a competitive soccer player, I injured my knee (ACL tear) which I got surgery for.

The unimaginable happened when I re-injured the same knee, and I needed another surgery… and even worse, another surgery…

After my 3rd surgery, I questioned whether it was possible to get back to a place where I could enjoy sports again.

I remember feeling isolated and alone. I felt left out when I watched my friends play sports without me.

I knew there had to be a better way. I found sport-specific physical therapy & myofascial release therapy.

Seeking out sport-specific physical therapy & John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach® is what allowed me to finally overcome my injuries and return to playing the sports and activities I loved the most, without fear of re-injury.

Now I tailor my personal experiences, extensive trainings, and qualifications to each individual patient to help them achieve their personal health and competition goals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been smooth. Along the way, I’ve come to understand that every obstacle, challenge, and setback is part of a larger process — quietly shaping us, like a blacksmith at an anvil, into someone more resilient and grounded.

Some of that shaping happens in moments of isolation, sacrifice, and reinvention. I’ve learned that the person we become through those seasons is one of the most meaningful parts of the journey.

I’ve had my fair share of losses — relationships that shifted, difficult interpersonal dynamics, resentment from peers, delays in building dreams, and physical injuries. I’ve also faced my own inner hurdles like “shiny object syndrome” and limiting beliefs. Each experience has left its mark, teaching me, softening me, and slowly strengthening me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work with rock climbers and people living with chronic pain. In the climbing community, I’m known as the “finger doctor” because I help climbers get back on the wall after finger injuries that are unique to our sport.

My approach to healing focuses on the whole person. True recovery isn’t just about fixing one painful spot. It’s about listening to the body, understanding the mind, honoring emotions, and supporting the spirit. I combine my training, experience, and personal journey to create care that’s tailored to each individual.

Many healthcare systems treat the body as separate parts. I look instead at how everything is connected, especially through the fascial system. Pain may show up in one area, but its root cause is often somewhere else. Using John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach®, I help people uncover and resolve those deeper root causes — work that feels deeply meaningful to me.

If you’ve been in pain for a long time, or have tried treatments that didn’t help — there is still hope. Not all physical therapy is the same. I’ve had the privilege of helping everyone from grandmothers to elite climbers return to the lives and activities they love, even after previous therapy didn’t work.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most meaningful lessons I’ve learned is to simply be myself. For a long time, I tried to please others believing that acceptance came from fitting in. Over time, I’ve realized that authenticity is what attracts the people who are truly meant to be in your life.

It’s better to be seen for who you are — even if not everyone understands — than to be liked for a version of yourself that was never real.
