Meet Rudy Marroquin of Atlas Custom Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rudy Marroquin.

Rudy Marroquin

Hi Rudy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up my father owned his own construction company in the houston area. I attended texas a&m and was on the football team for my freshman year. I quickly realized that football was not the path for me and always had a passion for construction. I began in 2010 as a superintendent for a construction company while attending texas a&m. Focusing on school and work i quickly rose through the ranks and became the youngest project manager at 22 years old. After graduating i moved to austin (after extensive research) and became a project manager for a local luxury residential construction company. After a few years i was offered the vice president role at another residential construction company making me one of the youngest to hold that position at 26 years old. From there i was able to learn first hand the business of running a luxury residential construction company. I was also able to learn the pit falls and stumbles builders make that are costly both in time and money. In 2019 i married my wife kristen and in 2020 we had our first son jax. This motivated me to start atlas custom homes. In 2021 atlas was formed and we have doubled year over year making us one of the best luxury builders in the state in under 5 years of existence. I speak spanish so i am able to connect with the trade base on a deeper level making the construction process/experience for our clients that much more enjoyable and smooth. Atlas is vertically integrated so we are able to control quality, budget, and timeline on a more profound level. I own four other companies that work for atlas (and other builders) which allows us to ensure quality. Since our formation we have won best builder of year 3 times which is amazing due to the fact that we are only five years old. I would consider atlas the new wave of luxury builders that has built a solid foundation due to our clients and projects.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Construction is never smooth. If it were residential builders wouldn’t exist. Our goal is what i consider a “fiduciary duty” to our clients. Struggles can come from the place you least expect it. How do we get the clients vision to match the plans? How can we accommodate the clients wants with the budget? How do we manage overages both in timeline or budget? These are a few of the struggles that in m opinion make the process enjoyable. Clear concise and realistic communication is paramount. Detailing and taking the clients on the journey that is building their dream home is key to clear up any struggles. If the line of communication are clear and we are able to connect with our clients on a deeper level then struggles become minor.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Atlas Custom Homes which a bespoke luxury custom home builder based in austin, texas with projects in california as well. Atlas is known for its modern architecture curated to fit the clients lifestyle. Atlas is vertically integrated which means i own the means of production saving our clients time and money. I own rkc which specializes in framing, texas star fence which handles all fence and deck needs, elevate garage doors which supplies garage doors and openers, atlas custom cabinets which handles all millwork. I am proud of the strong reputation we have built in such a short period of time. Winning best builder of the year 3 times in a row in under 5 years is not an easy feat. I am proud of the strong relationships we have with our current and past clients. We even spend holidays with them. Brand is what i am wanting the readers to know. Atlas is more than a residential builder it is a brand that focuses on luxury residential homes.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The best advice i can give is to love the craft. Seeing the clients go through a roller coaster of emotions from excitement to confusion to pure joy is what process is about. Seeing a husband and wife tear up as you hand them the keys to their dream home from pure happiness is a feeling that cant be explained.
