Today we’d like to introduce you to Katja Jones.
Hi Katja, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a German national who found the love of her life in Frankfurt, Germany, while he was stationed there with the U.S. Army. Years later, we had to say goodbye to Germany, two kids and a dog later, and begin a new chapter of our lives in Georgia and later in Texas.
Photography has always been part of my story. As a teenager, my dad gave me my very first digital camera, and I was incredibly proud of it. I photographed everything around me. Later, I was gifted a camera by my husband and my first professional Canon camera by my brother-in-law, who was very successful in food photography. That gift helped turn a lifelong passion into something more intentional.
After relocating, my path crossed again with an old friend who was a photographer. She offered to mentor me in newborn photography, and that mentorship reignited everything I loved about capturing life’s most meaningful moments. What started as a passion quickly became a calling.
During COVID, photography became a way to connect when the world felt uncertain. I hopped on my bike and photographed families for free, moving from neighborhood to neighborhood every other day. It was beautiful to witness parents suddenly home, outside, fully present with their children. The laughter, the togetherness, and the genuine smiles reminded me why photographs matter so deeply.
One session, in particular, changed me forever, a little girl who was terminally ill with cancer. I offered her family a free session, and the images we created together are now priceless memories, treasured forever. That experience continues to shape how I approach every session, with empathy, intention, and heart.
Today, I am proud to own and operate a photography studio in Killeen, Texas, where I specialize in maternity, newborn, family, weddings and events, seniors, and graduation photography. You name it—I truly love capturing it all. Every season of life tells a story, and it is an honor to preserve those moments for my clients.
Giving back through photography is especially close to my heart. I am a volunteer photographer for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (NILMDTS), providing remembrance photography for families experiencing the unimaginable loss of a baby. I am also a volunteer for the Texas Heart Gallery, helping children in foster care be seen, valued, and one step closer to finding their forever families.
I am incredibly grateful to have my work recognized by my community. In 2023 and 2024, I was honored as one of the Best Photographers in Central Texas, and in 2025, I was named Best Photographer in Central Texas by the Daily Herald.
Photography, for me, is more than images. It is about love, legacy, and preserving moments that deserve to be remembered forever.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The early years were not easy. I was juggling kids, family life, and a growing business, all while welcoming clients into our home because I didn’t yet have a studio. Between nap schedules, school drop-offs, and family responsibilities, I worked tirelessly to build something meaningful. Those challenges taught me resilience, patience, and gratitude, and they shaped the photographer, and business owner I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of KatjaJonesPhotographyLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I own and operate a full-service photography studio in Killeen, Texas, specializing in maternity, newborn, and family photography. My maternity clients have access to a large, carefully curated client closet featuring designer gowns, allowing every mama to feel confident, beautiful, and fully styled for her session.
For newborn photography, I provide a wide selection of props and continually invest in handmade outfits from incredible small businesses, ensuring each session feels unique, timeless, and thoughtfully designed. I truly love working with children of all ages—from cake smash sessions and milestone portraits to senior graduation sessions.
I am proud to be the official Shoemaker High School Band Photographer and especially enjoy working with teens, capturing both personality and accomplishment during such an important stage of life. In addition to studio work, I photograph courthouse weddings and larger wedding celebrations, documenting genuine moments with a natural, heartfelt approach.
My work has been honored with multiple community awards, including One of the Best Photographer in Central Texas (2023 & 2024) and THE BEST Photographer in Central Texas (2025). I am also a Community Votes Platinum Winner in both 2024 and 2025, an achievement I am incredibly grateful for.
