Daily Inspiration: Meet Kim Becker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Becker.

Kim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was an elementary school teacher for over 10 years. I started by making tshirts for my family and teacher friends. I then expanded to selling on Facebook in my own group. Word spread in a small town and I gained quite a following. I bought a laser engraver and expanded my business to engraved gifts and custom patches for hats. I did local pop up vendor sales and grew my following with my custom hat bar and tshirt sales. Recently, I have purchased a UV printer in order to expand again into printed promotional items. It all pairs nicely with my full time marketing manager position. Keeps me incredibly busy and hopeful for a lucrative future

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I left teaching at the end of the school year last year and took a leap into marketing. I have a marketing degree from Texas State University so I am excited to be back in the field and out of the classroom. It was a financial pay cut but allowed me to gain more professional experience. I’ve also gained a lot of business for Kbeck Designs. I’m happier now than I ever was in the classroom. I’m growing in my profession as well as building a successful small business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I design, create, and market tshirts, hats, and custom gift items. I keep up with trends, and market my products to the community through social media and direct sale without a storefront. I build trust with my excellent customer service and quick turnaround time. I’m most proud of the growth I’ve created since the creation of KBeck Designs in late 2023.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Taking risks is the only way to scale. Playing it safe would keep my business just a hobby. If I truly want to grow and make this a lucrative business I have to take risks. I recently purchased a UV printer without any knowledge of UV Printing. I’m teaching myself and mastering it to scale my business like I never imagined. I just committed to 8000 fly swatters branded for a pest control company in Florida! It’s just the beginning for branded marketing materials.
