Conversations with Mark McEachern

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark McEachern.

Hi Mark, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hill Country Heroes was built on one simple belief: take care of the people who take care of us.

What started as inviting a few veterans and first responders out to our ranch for a weekend of hunting and fellowship quickly turned into something bigger than we ever imagined. We saw walls come down, stories shared, and healing happen around a campfire.

So we opened the gates wider.

Today, Hill Country Heroes Texas provides outdoor experiences, support, and community for Veterans, First Responders, and Gold Star families — giving them a place to breathe, connect, and be honored.

We’re not a big organization. We’re just a family doing our part to say, thank you.

And we’re just getting started.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building Hill Country Heroes Texas has never been a smooth road. We started with no funding, no blueprint, and no big backing — just heart, faith, and a ranch gate that stayed open.

In the beginning, it was a lot of late nights, personal sacrifices, and figuring things out the hard way. Paying for events out of pocket. Wondering if we’d have enough volunteers. Chasing donations. Balancing family, work, coaching ball, and the nonprofit. There were moments we questioned if we could keep it going.

But every time we saw a veteran smile again, a first responder relax for the first time in months, or a Gold Star family feel supported — it reminded us why we started.

The struggles built the foundation.

Nothing about this has been easy… but every bit of it has been worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Most of my work revolves around ranch life, family, and investing in the next generation.

I own and operate Hoover Ranch, where I manage the land, wildlife, and day-to-day operations. It’s hands-on, physical work fixing fences, running equipment, caring for the property, and constantly improving the land. I take a lot of pride in stewardship and doing things the right way, not the easy way.

Outside the ranch, I’ve spent years coaching youth sports, especially baseball. Developing kids, building their confidence, teaching work ethic, and helping them grow as teammates and young men is something I care deeply about. Mentorship has always come naturally to me.

What I specialize in is building whether it’s land, teams, or people. I’m a builder at heart. I like starting with nothing and turning it into something meaningful through hard work and consistency.

I’m probably known for being hands-on and dependable. I’m not someone who points I jump in. If something needs to be done, I’m there doing it alongside everyone else.

What I’m most proud of isn’t business or titles it’s my family and the example I set for my kids. Showing them what hard work, faith, and service look like every day means more to me than anything else.

What sets me apart is simple: this isn’t just what I do it’s who I am. Rancher, coach, husband, dad. I don’t clock out of that.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
There are a lot of ways people can stand with us and support Hill Country Heroes Texas and every single one makes a real difference.

People can partner with us through sponsorships, donations, or by helping fund specific hunts and events. Businesses often collaborate by providing gear, meals, lodging, or services that directly support the families we serve. Individuals can volunteer their time, help at events, or simply show up and lend a hand.

And honestly, even spreading the word matters. Sharing our story, connecting us with veterans or first responders in need, or introducing us to potential partners helps us grow our impact.

At the end of the day, we’re a community driven organization. We don’t do this alone we do it together. If someone has the heart to serve, there’s always a place for them here.
