Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Green.
Hi Lori, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are a small community coffee shop in Dripping Springs, Texas, just southwest of Austin. We have been open since 2012, so 14 years. We are a roaster, roasting on site weekly, as well as a bakery. When we opened 14 years ago in historic downtown Dripping Springs, there was really not much happening on the street, maybe one or two other businesses. We started very slowly, adding things as we grew. We went from having a few sweet treats and coffee roasted by Cuvee here in Austin, to becoming our own roaster and bakery. It has been a wild ride, and we have loved every season we have been in. Our heart for this shop is not only excellence in our products, but also to bring people together. There is something magical about a coffee shop. The way people open up and share their stories with us and with others they meet from seeing them week by week. We have celebrated milestones in people’s lives and families, we have mourned with families over the loss of loved ones, we have watched babies grow into teenagers and adults, and we have even had two of our baristas meet, fall in love, and marry the love of their lives right here in the shop. It is so special to be a part of this community, and we wouldn’t trade that for anything.
We value this community and strive to support it however we can. We donate to the schools here for their events and fundraisers, and support other small businesses as well. We recently brought together about 25 local businesses during the tragic Kerrville flooding and raised $25,000 for a family from Dripping Springs that experienced a tragic loss.
That is what we love about Dripping Springs: we are stronger together when we support each other. So, all this to say, coffee is the vehicle that we get to use to be a part of so many amazing people’s lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say the obsticales have been the rising prices in this economy. We try to keep our prices as low as possible but it has gotten increasingly harder. We will never take advantage of over pricing anything. We know it’s expensive out there and we always want to be respectful of that.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mazama Coffee co?
I would say we are known for being the community “hub” for coffee, although there have been more amazing coffee shops popping up around town, and we love that. We are known for roasting in-house, baking fresh, sweet, and savory pastries each morning, and we make homemade flavored syrups for our drinks as well as sell them. We also make our own chai in-house.
What’s next?
We are focusing on our Roastery. We roast right here, in house and we are working on expanding our roasting to other coffee shops, gift shops etc… We also would like to purchase a coffee trailer in the next couple of years.
