Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Allen.
Hi Nathan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Clavier-Werke roots began with family music going back more than 100 years and across multiple generations. The director, Susan Allen started teaching piano lessons at the age of 14 when her piano teacher had an overflow of students. After completing her masters degree in piano performance and a minor in pedagogy, her residence had become a home-based school with multiple rooms converted to piano studios. The homebase eventually became what is now Clavier-Werke School of Music in West Lake Hills in 1999 and soon to follow, the second location in Circle C Ranch, opened doors early 2009. Susan’s daughter, Maggie manages the location in West Lake Hills and Nathan manages the location in Circle C Ranch. More than 30 teachers with honorable music degrees provide instruction for piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, voice, theory and composition with years of teaching experience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Zoning issues at the original home based school forced Susan to explore other options but quickly became viewed as a blessing in disguise as enrollment skyrocketed from 80 students to 180 students after only one year from open doors at 1000 Westbank Drive, suite 6A.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Susan began attending piano lessons at the age of 5 and by 14, her instructor was noticing Susan had own natural talent for teaching. Susan was also involved in choir. By the time she reached her late teens, she had requests to accompany others during their performances. After graduating from high school, she completed her bachelors in piano performance with a minor and pedagogy at North Texas State University. In her late 30s, she returned to school and completed her masters degree in piano performance at the University of Texas, Austin.
Susan‘s musical connections and strive to be a step above others has blessed her with a well-rounded team of accomplished musicians holding honorable degrees in performance, theory and composition from highly regarded institutions around the world.
