Daily Inspiration: Meet Keri Zimmerman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keri Zimmerman.

Hi Keri, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hippie Wicks Candle Co. was born from a simple desire to try something new, use my creativity, and make something meaningful to share with others. What began as hand-poured candles made as gifts for family and friends soon turned into a passion that grew into something more.

In the beginning, every batch wasn’t perfect. There were moments of frustration, self-doubt, and learning through trial and error. I spent evenings and weekends after my full-time job experimenting, pouring, and trusting the process letting creativity lead the way.

With encouragement from friends and family, I took a leap and turned my hobby into a small business with an open mind and a willingness to learn or even fail. My first few markets went well and inspired me to explore new scents and designs and to create a market setup that feels warm, relaxed, and welcoming like stepping into a cozy home.

Each candle is made with the hope of helping people unwind after a long day, creating a peaceful moment to relax, reset, and enjoy a scent that feels just right. I continue to learn and grow with every pour, guided by creativity and supported by my biggest cheerleader—my husband—who encourages me to dream bigger and follow my vision.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges was learning to trust the process. When I started, not every candle turned out the way I envisioned. There were batches that didn’t perform well, scents that didn’t blend as expected, and moments of frustration that made me question whether I was on the right path.

Balancing candle-making with a full-time job was another challenge. Many evenings and weekends were spent experimenting, learning, and creating. It took patience and consistency, and a lot of trial and error to grow confident in my work.

The encouragement from friends and family kept me going and with the belief that success isn’t meant to be rushed. Those challenges taught me to slow down, stay focused on the goals, and embrace growth. Each setback became a lesson, and every lesson helped shape the business into what it is today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in creating fun, colorful, great-smelling candles that are meant to bring joy. Each candle is designed to bring a smile to people’s faces, from the playful embeds to the unique scent combinations that make every piece feel a little special.

I love blending creativity with fragrance—experimenting with colors, textures, and scents that feel unexpected yet comforting. My goal is to create candles that don’t just smell amazing, but also add personality and happiness to a space, making them just as enjoyable to look at as they are to burn.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is creating something that feels genuine and comforting. Every candle I make is meant to bring a sense of calm whether that’s helping someone unwind after a long day, creating a cozy space at home, or a fun gift idea.

I care deeply about the creative process and staying true to myself, from choosing scents and colors to designing candles that feel warm and inviting. It’s important to me that my business reflects who I am and the joy I put into every piece.

The support of my family also means everything to me. Their encouragement—especially my husband’s—has given me the confidence to grow, take chances, and believe in what I’m building.
