Daily Inspiration: Meet Mylah Renae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mylah Renae.

Hi Mylah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I graduated college, my now-husband (then-boyfriend) gave me a DSLR camera as a graduation present. My sisters all called it my engagement camera. He and I met at a study abroad program, where we got to study and visit significant places in the life of Jesus and mission trips of Paul. He saw that I loved taking photos, so knew the perfect gift for graduation! Once I had it, friends of mine asked me to take photos for them, including engagement photos and weddings. The wedding photography business grew from there and I’m so thankful for every couple God has sent my way!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a very blessed road, but one of my biggest struggles is imposter syndrome. I think most business owners experience this at some point: not feeling good enough or deserving of success. You can see where others are in their business and can feel like you’re behind or not doing enough or not growing as fast. The truth is that everyone’s vision of success looks different and you need to set your own goal post. Move the goal post if you want, but remember to look back and thank God for the answered prayer you’re living in this moment.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been an Austin Wedding Photographer for over ten years. That’s a full decade of being trusted with people’s celebrations, milestones, and family memories. I’m known for my calming presence and documenting both staged and candid moments with intuition and a touch of playfulness. Having photographed 3 wedding planners’ own wedding, I’m trusted by Austin wedding planners. Local wedding venues also love my work, with at least a dozen listing me as their preferred wedding photographer. Clients love my crazy fast turnaround time for their full wedding gallery (4 weeks or less, which is 1/3 of the typical 12-week industry standard) and that they feel like the best version of themselves in the images I create for them. With 145+ 5-star reviews, clients get peace of mind when they hire me to photograph their wedding.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When I first started photographing weddings, one of the best things I did was second shoot for well established photographers. This gave me real wedding experience and allowed me to build my portfolio. With on-the-job training at a live event, these other photographers taught me what to look for and how to best approach wedding days. I learn by doing and am so grateful those mentor photographers trusted me as their backup.

Pricing:

  • Weddings start at $5k, but most couples spend $6500
