Kady Kearns
Hi, I’m Kady! I have been in the nanny industry for over two decades; as a caregiver, an agency owner, and now, as the founder of The Nanny Edit.

I was born and raised in Sacramento, California and grew up in a very large family with over 100 foster siblings. From a young age, I witnessed the impact of intentional caregiving, especially with children navigating special needs, trauma, and unique developmental challenges. It shaped everything about who I am. I spent years as a professional nanny in Chicago, Texas, and California and even worked abroad as an au pair in Australia and an English teacher in Thailand and Malaysia.

I have seen first hand how different cultures approach parenting and care, and I have blended those lessons into the foundation of The Nanny Edit. In 2016, I launched Pacific Elite Nannies, a boutique agency serving Southern California. Over the years, we became known for high-touch placements, long-term relationships, and exceptional service. But as more families across the country reached out, I realized we were ready for something bigger. Something national.

The Nanny Edit is our next chapter: a modern, nationwide agency that reflects our values, our heart, and our belief that care should always be curated.

I am a proud wife to a South African husband and a mama to a NICU warrior, born in 2024. My daughter inspires me every day to advocate for families, celebrate caregivers, and keep raising the bar.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road?
No. And honestly, I would be concerned if it had been.

The childcare industry is constantly evolving, and we have had to evolve right alongside it. One of the biggest challenges came during COVID, when families needs changed overnight. Parents were suddenly working from home, children were out of school, and traditional childcare models no longer fit real life. Roles shifted. Expectations shifted. Boundaries blurred.

We had to pivot quickly and get creative. We helped families redesign positions, adjust schedules, and think differently about support. We placed hybrid roles, supported learning pods, navigated health and safety concerns, and had very real conversations about burnout, flexibility, and sustainability for both families and nannies.

Beyond COVID, the industry itself continues to shift. Families today are more intentional and informed. Nannies are more career focused and advocacy driven. That is a good thing, but it also means agencies cannot stay static. We have had to continuously refine our processes, educate both sides, and sometimes say no to placements that did not align with long term success.

The struggles have pushed us to be better. More thoughtful. More transparent. More human.

The road has not been smooth, but it has been purposeful. Every challenge shaped The Nanny Edit into what it is today, a relationship driven agency that understands real life, real pivots, and real people.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Our Story
The Nanny Edit was born out of a simple truth: the
bestmatches come from intention, not algorithms. After nearly 10 years running Pacific Elite Nannies, a top-tier agency based in Southern California, we realized families across the country were craving the same curated, human-first approach. We listened. We expanded. And The Nanny Edit was born.

We believe great childcare is not one-size-fits-all. That’s why we carefully vet every nanny, connect deeply with each family, and make matches that are aligned in values, routines, and goals. It’s not about volume, it’s about quality. This is the elevated, modern experience that today’s families deserve.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Austin:
Austin has heart. There is a genuine sense of community here that you can feel in everyday life. People are friendly, open, and supportive, and there is a strong appreciation for creativity, entrepreneurship, and family life. I love that Austin is a city where you can build a business, raise a family, and still feel connected to nature. The parks, trails, and outdoor spaces make it easy to slow down, get outside, and reset, even in the middle of a busy season. There is also a shared understanding that life is meant to be lived, not just worked through, and that balance matters.

What I like least about Austin:
Austin has grown very quickly, and with that growth come real challenges. Traffic has increased, affordability has shifted, and some of the small town feel that made Austin so special has been harder to hold onto. Rapid growth can also put pressure on families, childcare systems, and infrastructure, which means people often have to get more creative and intentional about how they live and work here. I do think Austin is still finding its footing in that balance, but the community and spirit are strong enough to keep it moving in the right direction.
