Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Ryan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I originally went to college for film and video production. When moving to Austin, I was a freelance videographer and ran a small format (8mm & 16mm) film festival called Flicker. After freelancing a few weddings, my eye turned towards capturing stills and all those special family moments that tugged on my heartstrings. With a backlog of technical experience, the transition was pretty smooth and Cory Ryan Photography was launched in 2005.
Over the past 21 years, the business has now launched in a 2 photographer team – myself and Gia Pham – who both book as primary photographers for Austin’s luxury weddings, mitzvahs and private events. We’ve been featured in The Knot, Brides of Austin, Elle, Brides & Style Me Pretty, and been awards 4 golden boots at the Austin Fashion Awards.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any self employed business owner, we’ve had to work hard to stand out from the crowd. Photography in Austin is a very saturated market, but we’ve managed to succeed by working hard on our client and vendor relationships.
