Hidden Gems: Meet Band And Gina Evans of Hill Country MVMT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Band And Gina Evans.

Band and Gina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hill Country MVMT was born in 2019 out of a deep conviction that the fitness industry could — and should — feel more personal.

After years of coaching in high-volume gym environments, we kept seeing the same pattern: people would walk in motivated, but without real connection, accountability, or intentional programming, many would slowly fall through the cracks. The industry often prioritized scale over service. We wanted to flip that.

So we opened our doors in Dripping Springs with a clear mission: to create a space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to move well, feel good, and truly thrive.

From the beginning, we built Hill Country MVMT differently. We capped our small group classes to 10 people to keep coaching personal and offered multiple class types to provide a variety of focus. We prioritized education and required every coach to hold a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science or a health-related field, along with nationally recognized certifications. We didn’t want part-time hobbyists leading people through workouts — we wanted career professionals who deeply understand human movement and genuinely care about long-term health.

What started with just a handful of committed members has grown into a community of nearly 100 individuals across our small group training, personal training, nutrition coaching, and specialty services. While our physical space hasn’t changed since 2019, what’s grown inside these walls is something far more meaningful.

The biggest difference between year one and today is our team.

We are incredibly proud of the five coaches who now lead Hill Country MVMT. Each of us brings a strong academic background, industry credentials, and — most importantly — a shared commitment to integrity, humility, consistency, and service. Over the years, we’ve tightened our standards, clarified our values, and built a team culture that reflects exactly what we stand for. We hold ourselves to a high bar because our members deserve nothing less.

We’re not a big-box gym. You won’t find rows of selectorized machines or impersonal programming. What you will find is intentional coaching, thoughtfully designed strength training, goal reviews every 90 days, body composition tracking, and a community that genuinely celebrates one another’s progress.

We’ve also expanded the depth of what we offer — from prenatal and postpartum strength training to neuro-based performance coaching and nutrigenomic testing — because we believe fitness isn’t just about today’s workout. It’s about building strength and resilience for decades to come.

More than anything, we’ve built a gym family. Our kids (4.5 year old daughter and 2 year old son) have grown up inside these walls, watching people model what discipline, strength, and healthy habits look like. They see exercise celebrated and “practice reps” building proficiency. Members cheer each other on through personal records, life milestones, and hard seasons alike. That sense of belonging is what makes this place special.

Seven years in, we’re more grounded in who we are than ever before. We’re continuing to refine our craft, elevate our coaching, and grow with intention — not just in numbers, but in impact.

And while we’re proud of how far we’ve come, we genuinely believe the best chapters of Hill Country MVMT are still ahead.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the early years, one of our biggest challenges was simply being seen.

We’re tucked away in a small town and not located on a main road, so there was no drive-by discovery. For nearly three years, we didn’t have a monument sign on the street. Early on, we also ran into issues verifying our business on Google, which meant we weren’t easily searchable online. In many ways, we felt like a well-kept secret. Growth depended almost entirely on word of mouth — which is meaningful, but slow. That season required patience and consistency. We had to earn trust one relationship at a time.

And then, just as we were celebrating our first year in business, COVID hit. We were out of town visiting family for spring break when the news broke. What was supposed to be a vacation quickly turned into Zoom calls, contingency plans, and real-time business decisions. We even left early out of concern we might not be able to fly home.

However, within a day of returning, we were classified as a “non-essential business” and forced to close our doors — with no timeline for reopening. That closure lasted six weeks, but at the time, it felt completely uncertain. It was one of the most sobering moments of our entrepreneurial journey.

Fortunately, because we are heavily rooted in personal training, we were able to pivot quickly to virtual coaching and at-home programming. That shift allowed us to keep serving our the majority of our members and, quite literally, keep the lights on.

What meant even more was the support from our community. Many of our class-based members chose to continue paying their dues without expectation of “make-ups” later. That level of trust and generosity still humbles us.

COVID tested our resilience, but it also confirmed something powerful: Hill Country MVMT wasn’t just a place people worked out. It was a reliable family they leaned into for support and guidance.

Looking back, those challenges strengthened us. They forced us to become more adaptable, more decisive, and more grounded in our mission. We learned how to lead through uncertainty. We learned how to pivot quickly without compromising our standards. And we learned just how strong our gym family truly was.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Hill Country MVMT is a coaching-first strength and conditioning facility built for real life.

We serve a wide range of ages — from youth athletes as young as nine years old who are building strong movement foundations, all the way to our “Legends” group (55+), with our oldest member currently 86 years young. That range reflects what we believe at our core: strength training isn’t for a season of life — it’s for life.

What truly sets us apart is our level of professionalism and intentionality. Every coach on our team holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science or a health-related field, along with nationally recognized certifications. Coaching is our career — not a side pursuit.

But degrees are just the baseline.

We are lifelong students of our craft. As a team, we never stop learning. We actively pursue continuing education, stay current with research, and seek out deeper understanding — not just to keep up with science, but because we genuinely want to understand how to help people on a more meaningful level. Human movement is complex. Behavior change is complex. We take both seriously.

That mindset allows us to program intelligently, modify safely, and meet people exactly where they are.

We don’t just run workouts — we coach people.

One of the ways that shows up is through our 90-day Goal Review appointments. These structured opportunities exist for guided reflection. We sit down with members and ask: What’s been going well? What still feels challenging? What’s changed in your life in the past 3 months? And how do we adjust your plan based on where you are right now and where you want to be? Progress is intentional and collaborative.

We’re also data-informed without being extreme. We use body composition analysis—InBody scans— to track meaningful metrics beyond the scale. We offer nutrition coaching, prenatal and postpartum training, and neuro-based fitness work because strength is multidimensional. We also work with perimenopausal, menopausal and postmenopausal women initially struggling with what used to work for them not serving them well anymore to help navigate this new season of life.

Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is the culture we’ve built.

We call our members “Everyday Athletes” because we believe strength belongs to everyone — the mom who wants energy for her kids, the business owner managing stress, the former athlete reclaiming confidence, or the 50-year-old who wants to stay functionally independent for decades to come.

Our mantra — “Move Well. Move Often.” — reflects sustainability over extremes. We’re not interested in burnout or fads. We’re committed to helping people build resilient bodies and habits they can maintain for a lifetime.

If readers take away one thing, it’s this: we’ve built a place where professionalism and community coexist — where you’ll be coached with intention, supported like family, and challenged in a way that serves your long-term health.

That’s what we’re most proud of.

How do you think about happiness?
The simplest answer? Watching people realize they’re more capable than they thought.

There’s something incredibly powerful about seeing someone walk in unsure of themselves and, over time, stand a little taller. Lift something they once believed they couldn’t. Move without pain. Build confidence and capability that carries outside the gym walls.

We love the obvious milestones — first pull-ups, personal records on big lifts, body composition improvements — but honestly, it’s the small moments that make us happiest. The member who says, “I have more energy for my kids.” The 60-year-old who no longer fears getting down on the floor. The 86-year-young who continues to show up with resilience and consistency. The child learning how to hinge and squat properly for the first time.

We love full classes that end in high-fives. We love when members cheer for each other’s wins. We love watching friendships form in between sets.

And personally, as parents, it means the world to us that our own children are growing up inside this environment — seeing adults model discipline, resilience, and prioritizing health. There’s something really special about building a business where strength isn’t just trained, it’s demonstrated daily.

What makes us happiest is knowing that what we do matters beyond the workout. That we’re helping people feel strong in their bodies and confident in their lives outside of the gym, where it matters most. That part that never gets old.
