Conversations with Larissa Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Larissa Thompson.

Hi Larissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve loved taking photos for as long as I can remember. (Ask my brothers and childhood friends about the “photoshoots” I staged with whatever film was left on my disposable camera after camp.) I’ve upgraded a little — okay, a lot — since then, and formally opened my photography business in 2013. My desire to learn more about photography deepened when I became a mom and wanted to beautifully capture my own children’s childhood. Along the way, I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to preserve those moments for other families too.
I love pouring through old family photos, asking about the people in them, and learning more of their stories. Photographs are such a powerful link to the past — to generations gone and to fleeting moments in our own lives. They are some of my most prized possessions, and my heart is to help you create meaningful, beautiful memories that will be cherished for generations.
Outside of photography, I’m a lifelong learner. I attended Texas A&M University (Class of ’08) where I earned a degree in Biology, and I currently work part-time as a Physical Therapist. That background shapes the way I photograph — from patience and attention to detail, to understanding movement, connection, and comfort during your session.
I’m deeply grateful for this life — for every day I get to be a wife to my husband and a mom to my children. Above all, I want my work and my days to give glory to the One who made it all. That is my why. I want to capture the beauty in your lives and praise the Maker through it.
As a New Braunfels photographer, I primarily serve families in New Braunfels, San Antonio, San Marcos, and throughout the Texas Hill Country.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning your own business is always a learning process. I am self taught so I am always eager to learn more about my craft. But there is also so much more to owning a business too. Learning to craft your contract to best fit your business, guide people through how your business works and of course paying taxes!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love capturing families and all the aspects of their love. The love between parents as they welcome a new baby, the way siblings are so enamored with the new baby. Their toddler walk and the way they hold their mommas hand.

I have recently added a completely new concept for my clients by remodeling a trailer to be a mobile studio. I know how hard it is to leave the house with a newborn and go just about anywhere, much less have hair and makeup done! I bring my studio right to my clients home and capture their new bay right there. Once siblings are done they can go right back home with their dad and not have to hang out in the studio.

I also offer something to my clients that I enjoy so much. I want Santa to be a magical experience and so I offer it as a free session to my clients each year. Anyone that has had a session with me that year is invited to my customer appreciation event and there are crafts and cookies and pictures with Santa.

For me, my clients are so much more than clients. I love it when they become friends! I love being invited into their lives time and time again to capture it and I am so grateful for them!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love how there is something for everyone! From small businesses to beautiful outdoor spaces. I don’t like traffic though ha. I am from a small town and I’m not used to traffic!
