Today we’d like to introduce you to James Guzman.
Hi James, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We opened Guzman Automotive, a locally owned and family-operated auto repair shop, in November 2023 on the same land that I once picked cotton in.
When my sons were very young kids, I told my wife, Christina, “I’m going to have a business with my boys one day.” Christina and I have been together since our early teens, and two of our four children were actually born while we were still teenagers. As I mentioned, I grew up picking cotton; my family came from abject poverty. Fast forward 25+ years, and here we are living my dream. Collectively, we have 30+ years of experience in automotive repair, maintenance, and remanufacturing. I owned the Christian Brothers Automotive franchise in Hutto, TX, for nearly 12 years.
Guzman Automotive was birthed out of a dream and passion for serving. Our tagline, “Service As It Should Be.” We believe everyone that walks through our shop doors is a blessing to our family and should be treated as such. I came up with that tagline while reminiscing about the days when gas stations were called service stations, and the customer barely lifted a finger. We don’t just fix cars; we make life easier and solve problems. We strive to erase the stigma that the automotive industry has gained for being dishonest. We are locally owned and family operated. And now, all four of my kids work for Guzman Automotive!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle we face is the availability of qualified automotive technicians, which is an industry-wide challenge. Currently, we are partnering with local high schools that have students in CTE Automotive Technology programs. We have one part-time student who will start working for us full-time after graduating in May. Currently, he works two hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon. He has been with us for a year now.
Here is an excerpt on how our partnership with Taylor High School looks:
In Spring 2025, we partnered with Taylor High School’s CTE Program to support the next generation of skilled technicians. Our master diesel technician, Taylor Darst, volunteers weekly to lead the hands-on portion of the Diesel Technology program. That same semester, we proudly hired standout student Isaac Perez as an intern, recognizing his exceptional technical ability, initiative, and passion for the trade. We look forward to continuing this partnership and supporting workforce development through the school’s new CTE facility, and we hope to build similar relationships in future communities where Guzman Automotive expands.
We’ve been impressed with Guzman Automotive, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Founder/CEO at Guzman Automotive. I specialize in finance, marketing, and future expansion strategy. We are currently searching for a second location in Williamson County. The goal is to have a second location open this calendar year and a third location in 2027.
