Hidden Gems: Meet Daniel Bisett of We Rock DM

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Bisett.

Hi Daniel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started as an anthropologist, which sounds like an odd origin story for a marketer, but it actually explains everything about how I work. I graduated from Texas State, and almost immediately I was on a plane to Korea to teach English. That kicked off about a decade of teaching and living abroad across Asia, South America, Europe, and beyond. Five continents in total.

What I discovered during that time is that I have a real gift for translating complex ideas into something people can actually use. I came back to Texas, earned my MA in TESOL from Sheffield Hallam, got certified to teach here, and spent nearly eight years in the classroom. But I was also building websites on the side, learning SEO, running digital campaigns, and getting obsessed with how brands communicate.

That passion grew into a full agency. I co-founded We Rock DM, and we’ve built it into an award-winning shop serving clients from our base in the Texas Hill Country. Around the same time, UT McCombs brought me in to teach marketing, and I’ve been there since 2024 teaching principles of marketing to hundreds of students each semester.

More recently I’ve gone deep on AI. I’ve built five original AI and marketing courses from scratch for Varsity Tutors, and I’ve been integrating these tools into everything I do for clients and students alike.

So the short version is: I started as a communicator, became a builder, and I’m now at the intersection of brand strategy, AI, and learning design. That through-line has always been the same: help people and organizations understand something better and perform at a higher level.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, no. It has not been a straight line at all.

The biggest challenge early on was that my path looked scattered from the outside. Teaching in Korea, then Ecuador, then Scotland, then Texas. A degree in anthropology. Multiple certifications across multiple countries. I knew there was a thread connecting all of it, but I spent years trying to convince other people of that too.

When I pivoted seriously into digital marketing and web development, I was largely self-taught. That means you build confidence through doing, not through credentials, which is a slower and sometimes humbling process. There were clients who took a chance on me before I had the portfolio to justify it, and I had to deliver. A few times that pressure was significant.

Running an agency while teaching full-time is genuinely hard. Both demand your full presence. There are seasons where one suffers for the other, and you have to be honest with yourself about that.

And then the AI wave hit. I had a choice: feel threatened or lean in hard. I chose to lean in. But rebuilding curriculum, repositioning my agency, and figuring out where I fit in a landscape that is changing every few months is not a small lift. It is ongoing.

The through-line in all of it though is that I tend to do my best work under pressure. The messy road gave me range, and range is what makes me useful now.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about We Rock DM?
We Rock DM is a boutique digital marketing agency based in the Texas Hill Country, and we built it from the ground up on one core belief: small and mid-sized businesses deserve the same quality of strategy and execution that enterprise brands get, without the bloat or the runaround.

We specialize in web design and development, SEO, content strategy, and paid media. But what we are really known for is building digital ecosystems that actually perform. Beautiful websites that do not just sit there looking pretty. Campaigns that are tracked, tested, and optimized. Brands that feel cohesive and intentional from the first click to the final conversion.

What sets us apart is the combination of agency expertise and genuine educator instincts. My co-founder Tricia brings incredible creative vision and has been recognized multiple times, including Startup of the Year and Best Female Entrepreneur. Together we have earned Stevie Awards for our work. But beyond the hardware, what I am most proud of is that our clients understand what we are doing and why. We do not hide behind jargon or black-box reporting. We bring people into the process.

We are also one of the few boutique agencies that has been deeply integrated into AI tooling from the ground up, not as a gimmick but as a genuine multiplier for client results.

What I want readers to know is simple: if you want a partner who is as invested in your growth as you are, We Rock DM delivers that.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Just this: I think we are living in the most interesting moment in the history of marketing and education, and I mean that genuinely, not as a buzzword.

The tools available right now, the ability to build, test, teach, and reach people at scale, it has completely changed what is possible for small teams and independent professionals. A two-person agency in the Hill Country can compete with firms ten times its size. A single instructor can build a course that reaches thousands. That is extraordinary.

What I hope people take away from my story is that a nonlinear path is not a liability. The anthropologist who taught in five countries and then built a marketing agency and then started teaching AI at a major university did not waste any of those years. Every chapter sharpened something. The curiosity, the cross-cultural communication, the obsession with how people learn and make decisions, all of it feeds directly into the work I do today.

If you are a business owner who feels like your digital presence does not reflect how good your product actually is, reach out. If you are a professional trying to figure out where you fit in an AI-driven world, I am teaching those courses right now.

And if you are just someone who likes connecting with people doing interesting work, find me at werockdm.com or on LinkedIn. I am always up for a good conversation.
