Today we’d like to introduce you to Keilany Knight.
Hi Keilany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was 11 my dad bought himself a camera to start his hobby in photography. He actually didnt really get around to it! I got bored one day and picked up the camera and started taking photos around the house and teaching myself. I never really put down the camera. In high school I signed up for yearbook and continued my passion of capturing people well after graduation. I then began my business in 2015 officially, when I photographed my first wedding for a couple that paid me $200. I continued to grow my business into what it is now and I am working on expanding into brand strategy!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles along the way have been major imposter syndrome! I feel as though many of my obstacles have been from believing that I am not actually as good as I am. I also am terrible at social media so that is a challenge in itself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have specialized in portraits and weddings for about 8 years. I am pivoting to portraits, food and branding. I have helped many of my entrepreneurial friends hone in their brand voices. I believe that what sets me apart is that I am self taught. With that I believe that I bring my heart into my work first. I like to speak with my clients before and create relationships so that when I do photograph them, I am capturing them and who they are.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My ex husband was and still is one of my biggest supporters. I almost quit before I even started my business and he pushed me to start and continue to do what I am doing now. I also have a massive support system of my friends and family, my friend and boss, Jacque at Hops and Thyme is a huge advocate for me. She promotes my business alongside hers. I have many entrepreneurial friends that support me and my business by hiring me. I am grateful to have such big fans in my life.
