Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Krippelz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Tequila Ranch really started as a vision between my wife, Stormy, and me—a shared dream to create a place where people could come together and celebrate some of the most meaningful moments of their lives. We’ve always loved hosting, bringing people together, and creating experiences, so the idea of turning a piece of land into something special just felt right.
In the beginning, it wasn’t glamorous. It was long days, figuring things out as we went, and putting everything we had into building something from the ground up. We were out there making improvements ourselves, solving problems, and slowly shaping the property into what we knew it could become. There was a lot of trial and error, but also a lot of heart behind every decision.
I’ll never forget those first weddings. Seeing a couple trust us with one of the most important days of their lives—it meant everything. That’s when it really clicked that this was bigger than just a venue. It was about creating a place where memories are made, where families come together, and where people can feel something real.
As word started to spread, we grew—but we’ve always been intentional about staying personal. We didn’t want to become just another venue. We wanted people to feel like they were taken care of, like they mattered. One of the most special moments for us was when one of our very first brides, Elissa, became part of our team as our coordinator. That full-circle moment really captures what Tequila Ranch is all about—relationships that last beyond the event itself.
Today, we’re proud to host dozens of weddings and celebrations each year, but we still approach every event with the same mindset we had on day one. This isn’t just a business to us—it’s something we’ve poured our lives into. And at the end of every event, when we see families hugging, couples celebrating, and people not wanting the night to end—that’s what makes it all worth it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, it’s been a rewarding journey, but I wouldn’t say it was completely smooth. We didn’t come from the wedding industry, so in a lot of ways we were learning everything from the ground up. That was both a challenge and a blessing—it meant we didn’t have a roadmap, but it also allowed us to think differently.
One of our biggest early struggles was really understanding what our market needed. There are a lot of venues out there, so we had to figure out how to create something that truly stood out and filled a gap. That took time, listening to couples, making adjustments, and sometimes learning the hard way what worked and what didn’t.
There were also the typical growing pains—building out the property, refining our processes, and balancing the demands of the business with our personal lives. Like any small business, there were moments where things felt uncertain, but we stayed consistent and kept improving little by little.
Looking back, those challenges were a big part of what shaped Tequila Ranch into what it is today. They pushed us to be more intentional, more hands-on, and more focused on the experience we provide. In the end, I think not coming from the industry helped us create something that feels a little different—and that’s become one of our strengths.
As you know, we’re big fans of Tequila Ranch Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Tequila Ranch Events is a wedding and event venue just outside of Austin in Taylor, Texas, built around the idea of creating a relaxed, authentic, and memorable experience for every guest who walks onto the property. We host weddings, private events, and corporate gatherings, and we’ve designed the space to offer both beautiful indoor and outdoor settings with a true Texas feel.
What really sets us apart is how hands-on and personal we are. We’re not a large, corporate-run venue—we’re owner-operated, and we stay involved in every event. From the first tour to the last song of the night, we’re there to make sure things run smoothly and that our couples feel supported every step of the way.
We also offer flexible, all-inclusive options while still allowing clients the freedom to bring in their own vendors if they choose. That balance—structure when you need it and flexibility when you want it—is something our couples really value. It helps reduce stress without taking away the ability to make the day feel personal.
Another thing we’re known for is the overall experience. It’s not just about the venue itself—it’s about how people feel when they’re here. The sunsets, the open space, the atmosphere, and the energy of the events all come together to create something that feels special and a little different from the typical venue.
Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is the reputation we’ve built. A lot of our growth has come from word of mouth and referrals, which tells us we’re doing something right. We’ve worked hard to create a place where people feel taken care of, and where the experience stays with them long after the event is over.
At the end of the day, we want readers to know that Tequila Ranch isn’t just a venue you rent—it’s a place that’s been built with intention, where people genuinely care, and where your event is treated like it matters. That’s what drives everything we do.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What we love most about this area is the sense of community and the pace of life. Being just outside of Austin, we get the best of both worlds—you have access to everything a major city offers, but you can still create a space that feels open, relaxed, and connected to nature. That balance is a big part of what makes Tequila Ranch special. People come out here and can really slow down, take in the scenery, and be present for their event.
We also love how supportive and entrepreneurial the community is. There’s a strong network of small businesses, vendors, and creatives who genuinely want to see each other succeed, and that’s been a big part of our growth.
If there’s a downside, it’s probably how quickly the area is growing. Growth brings opportunity, but it also comes with challenges—more traffic, rising costs, and the risk of losing some of that small-town feel that makes this area so unique. It’s something we’re mindful of, and we’ve tried to preserve that authentic, laid-back atmosphere on our property as much as possible.
Overall, though, it’s a great place to build something meaningful, and we feel fortunate to be part of it.
