Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Hemming.
Hi Valerie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Salt & Light was created in response to something I kept seeing; people running on empty, holding stress in their bodies, and not having a space that truly helps them slow down and reset.
For me, this work is personal. I remember realizing my body had been braced for years and I didn’t know how to let it soften. I didn’t even recognize I had been living in a constant state of hypervigilance until it began to shift.
That changed how I understood healing.
I began to see that real change doesn’t come from pushing harder, but from creating space. In the pause between stimulus and response, the nervous system can finally assess, respond, and return to calm, but most people don’t have the environment or support to access that.
That realization shaped everything I built.
I started working with modalities like halotherapy, infrared sauna, sound therapy, lymphatic support, and body-mind somatic sessions, not as separate services, but as tools that work together. Because while the mind often runs patterns to try to keep us safe, the body holds the truth. When we learn to listen to it, we can begin to shift out of those patterns and into something new.
Salt & Light was designed to support that process. Every detail is intentional, helping the body settle, the breath deepen, and the nervous system come out of constant alert so people can reconnect, regulate, and feel present again.
Today, it’s a space for individuals, families, and the community to step out of the pace of daily life and into something quieter and more restorative, whether they come for respiratory support, stress relief, or simply a moment to pause and come back to themselves. Arrive as you are, leave with more of yourself.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road and in many ways, that’s what shaped the foundation of this work.
There was a point where I had to rebuild from the ground up. Starting over like that changes you, it forces clarity, resilience, and a deeper understanding of what actually matters and what you’re here to create.
At the same time, this isn’t something I arrived at quickly. I’ve spent the past 26 years building a deep toolkit through formal training, hands-on experience, and my own life. A lot of what I offer now comes from lived understanding, not just learned concepts.
One of the biggest challenges has been translating that depth into something tangible and accessible. Taking complex ideas around the nervous system, subconscious patterns, and how the body holds stress and turning them into experiences people can actually feel and benefit from.
There’s also the reality of building something that doesn’t fit neatly into a single category. Salt & Light isn’t just a spa, and it’s not traditional therapy, it exists in the space between. That’s required clarity in how we communicate what we do and why it matters.
But ultimately, those challenges refined the vision. They pushed me to build something more intentional, more integrated, and more aligned with what actually creates real, lasting change.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Salt & Light, we specialize in helping people slow down enough for the body to finally exhale.
We offer services like halotherapy, infrared sauna, sound therapy, red light therapy, lymphatic support, Reiki, and body-mind somatic sessions, but what sets us apart is how intentionally those services are designed to work together. Rather than treating each modality as a standalone experience, we focus on how they can support the nervous system, respiratory health, emotional regulation, and the body’s natural ability to heal.
We are especially known for creating experiences that help people feel safe, seen, and deeply cared for. Whether someone comes in carrying chronic stress, burnout, emotional overwhelm, tension in the body, or simply the need to breathe easier, we meet them where they are.
A lot of what makes Salt & Light different is that we bridge both the physical and emotional sides of healing. We understand that the body holds onto stress, survival patterns, and past experiences and that true restoration often comes from supporting both the body and mind together.
I’m most proud of creating a space that feels deeply personal and intentional. People often tell us they can feel the difference as soon as they walk in that it feels calmer, softer, and more connected than other wellness spaces they’ve experienced.
Clients often leave saying, “This is the most relaxed I’ve ever felt,” “I can’t believe I fell asleep,” or “I’m calmer than I can ever remember being.” Those moments are what I’m most proud of, because they remind me that people don’t just need more wellness options, they need spaces where they finally feel safe enough to let go.
We’re also proud to be family-friendly and community-centered. We wanted to create something that felt approachable and welcoming for everyone from adults dealing with stress and burnout to children who may benefit from respiratory or nervous system support.
At the end of the day, what sets us apart is that we are not just offering services, we are creating an environment where people can reconnect with themselves in a way that feels real, supported, and lasting.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m constantly learning and seeking out new perspectives through books, podcasts, research, and lived experience. Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Joe Dispenza, the Know Thyself podcast, Sue Morter, Gabor Maté, Robert Grant, and the poetry of Rumi.
I’m especially drawn to work around survival strategies, nervous system repair, subconscious patterns, trauma, and the connection between the mind and body. I love learning from both science and ancient wisdom, because I think there is value in understanding the body from many different angles.
More than anything, I stay curious. I’m always interested in how people heal, what creates lasting change, and how different perspectives and lived experiences can help us better understand ourselves and each other.
At Salt & Light, I want clients to experience the felt sense of these ideas for themselves, to become more curious about their own inner world and meet themselves with more compassion. I want people to know they are not alone, they are not broken, and there is nothing to fix. We are whole, even as we heal.
