Today we’d like to introduce you to Nico Little.
Hi Nico, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Austin when I was 23 from Montreal, Canada to pursue a career in music.
I got myself a job on 6th street as a door guy at a known blues bar called “Friends Bar”. That job opened the door (pun) for stage time which enable me to practice my craft and grow as an artist. Now 3ish years later, I no longer work said job thankfully! We actually have the privilege to play all over Austin and central Texas on weekly basis, which has been such a dream! We will be heading back to Canada this summer for our first Canadian tour since my arrival, which is a very nice full circle moment aswell!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has certainly been an exiting road. There have been challenges and times were it seems ridiculous to pursue an artistic career in the modern age, given the difficulties with the business. It is necessary to stay focused and to remember the reward is the experiences created with the people we play for and the times we get to spend creating and sharing our music.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a blues rock psychedelia band I think… I would assume that is the space we are most known for. Austin is such a rich blues environment. I have yet to find a city with this much love and infrastructure for blues artists and their music in North America. It is such an honor to be able top play at some of America’s most historic venues such as Continental Club or Antone’s on any given night of the week, it is not something we ever take for granted.
Rhys John Stygal our guitarist and myself take a lot of pride in trying to learn and cherish the traditions laid before us within this city and community. Legends like Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Clark Jr to name a few, have really lit up the path that many of us which to walk down. It’s special.
How do you think about happiness?
Music makes me very happy, i’m not sure why… but it certainly does!
