Hi Chris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We opened Sans Bar in 2017 as an alternative to the boozy social scene in Austin. I wanted a space that felt comfortable and safe for everyone and offered live music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge we faced was helping people understand the need for an alcohol-free bar. Often we would hear things like “You can’t have fun without drinking” or “You can just go to a coffee shop if you want to socialize”, and what all of these sorts of comments fail to capture is that it can be challenging to make new connections in spaces like a coffee shop. A bar is a place you go to meet new people and have fun.

We are an alcohol-free bar that offers sober, safe, and inclusive fun on Friday and Saturday nights.

My advice is to start before you are ready. There will never be a perfect time to start your business, try a new skill or stop a negative behavior. If you learn to embrace the lessons failure offers, you will always find success.
