Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Polk.
Stephanie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I actually realized my God-given given talent only three short years ago. Prior to that, I hadn’t even baked before. Our family, at that time, was a family of 7, now 8, and I wanted to do something special for birthdays. People started to tell me how good my pound cakes were and that they were actually special and should be sold. I thought they were good, but also thought it was loved ones saying loving things. At that point, the vision wasn’t there. I just baked for the love of family. That same love I still put into every cake and I just see my family as continually growing with every cake sold to all Gr8 Debake Customers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Surprisingly, even through the global pandemic, our journey to now had been really blessed and relatively smooth. We sold our first cakes as The Gr8 Debake on Valentine’s Day 2020. Just about all of our business Cake from selling cakes at my husband’s job. A month later, they went 100% virtual. We had to find a different way immediately, neither of us were social media people, but my husband decided to get active on mainly Facebook and get our name out there. It has really worked amazingly well and now word of mouth is really gaining steam. We have been truly blessed to be able to grow an entire baking business through a pandemic when gatherings have been limited.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a baking business that specializes in pound cakes. We have over 30 flavors of pound cakes. All of our cakes are made totally from scratch with love. We are becoming known for our moist and flavorful pound cakes. Our signature crust is just an additional thing, other then how moist and flavorful they are that sets us apart. We put a crispy crust on every pound cake that sets it all the way off and makes you want to save the bottom for that one last bite. We are most proud that our customer service has been applauded just as much as our cakes. We take pride in making it an experience to get a cake from us and love that people feel we did good enough to tell us and everyone how personable we are and how much they love their experience. Had a long-time friend post under a customer recommendation that he feels amazed that “EVERYONE says the same thing about the service and it’s the same thing from long-time friends to strangers”. It is really important to us.
What does success mean to you?
Mine is probably different from the norm or what one might expect, the level of peace and love that comes from knowing I’m doing what God intends for me to be doing. I find success in each and every cake completed and hearing the joy and enjoyment that my creations bring to other families. It all started with the enjoyment of my family on their special days, and knowing my cakes bring that same level of enjoyment to others is what I define as success. I feel I am walking the path intended for me and that path making a means for my family which could lead to a Potential legacy being built an amazing feeling.
