Life & Work with Anthony Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Garcia.

Hi Anthony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a guitarist, classically trained pianist and vocalist with a deep love for rock and songwriting. I perform regularly in and around Austin and released my first solo album, Acres of Diamonds, in July of 2020. My love of travel and adventure has taken me many places through music, of course, but it has been primarily my interest in assimilating as much as I can to other cultures and languages that has led to living abroad at different times of my life and learning the languages and customs of the host land. These places included Germany as an exchange student (as a result, I am fluent in German), and subsequently in recent years annual summer music tours there and surrounding countries; four years as an English teacher in Busan, South Korea, (also including touring and recording time there); three years in NYC, which I consider a foreign country; and numerous trips and tours covering most of western Europe and travel throughout SE and East Asia, South America and most of the US. All of these travels have led me to my current musical home here in Central Texas. A native of Lubbock, Tx., I studied music and education at Texas Tech University, have worked as a music therapist, music teacher and various other jobs before deciding I didn’t want a boss anymore and to dive headlong into being a self-employed musician.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The only real challenges along the way have been the ones I’ve placed before myself. I believe all of my experiences in life have come as a result of challenging myself to live outside of what is comfortable or predictable for me. There are challenges and obstacles that naturally emerge when one pursues self-employment/promotion as an artist or business person. Staying the course, (trying) not to take things personal and being responsible and reliable are key factors to overcoming these obstacles.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud of my ability to create and perform music. I specialize in guitar and piano performance. I am also proud of, at the moment, my latest album. It was a labor of love spanning many years and I feel that the final result is an accurate reflection of the original vision I had for the project, something that is not always a guaranteed result when pursuing such an endeavor.
