Today we’d like to introduce you to Michaela Hartnett.
Hi Michaela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I had a passion for modeling since I was a young girl but never had the courage to pursue it until right before my sophomore year of college. I decided I did not want to wonder “what if” for the rest of my life and went for it. It has been an extremely tough journey, but I have accomplished so much and met so many wonderful people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been anything but smooth. I have faced a ton of rejection. I don’t think people outside the industry understand how much rejection and negativity come your way as a model. When I first started modeling, I was in college, so I would find out about a casting in Houston on a Saturday, then I would hurry and get all my work done that week drive to Houston from Austin just to get rejected from the job. My friends would go to parties, hang out and I was in my car crying because it was another “no.” I think my biggest struggle is the rejection, but that is the main part of the job. You’ll get a hundred “no’s” and one “yes,” but that one “yes” is worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My specialty is modeling. I think the thing I am most known for is my Instagram handle. I have been at shows and someone asks me “Are you ‘it’s Michael with an a?’ It’s kind of funny that people recognize me for that, but once we work together and they see me in action they remember by my worth ethic and skill. I am most proud of being able to learn from Coco Rocha. She created a modeling camp a few years ago. I was terrified to apply because I did not want to get a rejection from her, but sure enough she accepted me. I went to New York and learned with some other girls and I have been changed ever since. I am definitely a better model for it!
I think my work ethic is what makes me different from others. I LOVE what I do, so when I am on set or at a job, I want everyone who works with me to know it by my attitude and by hard I work. If I can leave a job and the designer, photographer or brand are not only happy with my work, but with me then I consider that a successful day.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
They can email me, contact me through Instagram or reach out to my agency Diane Dick Legends. I am always excited to work with new people and create for them or with them!
