Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Smith.
Hi Jordan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We started in 2007 as RG Maternity, a clothing shop for tall pregnant women. After eleven years of business and countless requests to add “regular” tall clothing, we relaunched in 2018 as The Elevated Closet and added clothing for every stage of life.
I bought The Elevated Closet in the Fall of 2019 after owning another business with my husband. We started a subscription box in January of 2019, so when The Elevated Closet was put for sale in the fall of 2019, I had gotten the confidence of owning my own business and decided to take it on. I have always dreamed of owning my own clothing line for tall women like myself, so when this opportunity came around, I jumped! I am a former WNBA player and mother of two. At 6’4” tall, I definitely understand the struggle to find clothes that fit, especially when you are expecting. My mission is to empower all women to follow their dreams with confidence and style! I have been learning a lot and really looking forward to expanding my business. Right now, we are only online, as tall women’s clothing is very niched. I have sold clothing to women shorter than 5’9″ who prefer longer tops or have longer legs. For the main part, our clothing is designed for women over 6’0″ tall.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding manufacturing has been a struggle but I have found a few manufacturers lately willing to work with me as a small business. Finding the right pieces that are missing in the tall market is also difficult although I feel like I am dialing in on those now.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in clothing for women over 6 feet tall although some women who are shorter can still shop with us if they have a long torso or longer legs. Our clothing has longer lengths in the tops, our pants and jeans have longer inseams, etc. I am 6’4″ and understand what is missing for tall women, so I am the target market as well. We also have maternity options for tall women which is almost obsolete in the general market. We have maternity jeans, tops and more!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I want to be a main player in the tall market. I would love to get to a point where I am launching new products monthly. Success to me is getting to a point where I have new products coming in monthly and selling out within a few months.
