Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Levy.
Hi Hunter, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got started with photography after assisting my mom (also a photographer) on a shoot. The shoot itself wasn’t the most exciting event but I realized that if I could have that much fun with an event like that, I might be able to really enjoy photography. I bought a camera a few months later and started learning as much as I could.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes and no. I have had some opportunities thrown my way that have allowed me to advance quicker but at the same time through some of those opportunities, I realized just how much there is to learn. I would say the biggest struggle so far has been the pandemic. I felt like I was just really getting busy before the pandemic started and then everything came to a halt.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I started by doing mainly concert photography. As a musician and live music fan, I found a natural pull towards that type of photography. As fun as concert photography is, I was always at the mercy of the lighting of the venue and also wanted to start learning about controlling light. I started shooting models with studio lighting and then also practiced with outdoor natural light to further my knowledge.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Probably that light is everything in photography and how to look at your given lighting conditions and work with it.
