Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Chinchilla.
Hi Erika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Austin from Peru and until few years of working as a nanny, I decided to do something different. I went to ACC to the Continuing education program and studied Floral design. I worked in two flower shops and fall in love with these plants. When I quit the flower shop, I decided to start my own business working with this cactus and succulents.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall has been a smooth road. I was lucky enough to be accepted at The Farmers Market a short time after I applied. And that’s is when everything started.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Indigo Soil?
I make succulents and cactus arrangements. And sell them at The Farmers Market every weekend. I use for decorations little Peruvian accents like small pots and Chulucanas birds (small birds made with clay and hand-painted in the north of Peru) and I’m so proud I can show here part of the Peruvian art and also buying from this artisan that is very talented. They also make hand-painted pots. Beautiful! I make small arrangements for the market but I also make big custom arrangements.
Any big plans?
I’m planning to expand my business and have an online store.
