Today we’d like to introduce you to Talisha Kaye
Hi Talisha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Talisha Kaye (affectionately known as TK) a published Austin Texas model/Makeup artist and owner of Winx Couture Lashes. I started my makeup artistry career by being employed with a few top name brands over the years. I eventually became a freelance makeup artist on my own while still employed with a major cosmetic company. I definitely honed and perfected my craft over the years and took criticism at the beginning of my career as precious lessons that would only benefit my craft as I grew as an artist. Now, I am a solidified business owner and Bella Salon Master Makeup Artist who continuously finds new and innovative ways to express myself through my art! My credits include being apart of a NARS PA event with brand founder Francois Nars, having my work featured in Under Armour’s Fall 2017 campaign for Olympic gold medalist Natasha Hastings, along with having my work featured on her for a Curl’s brand commercial, Grammy Award-winning artist Cardi B, reality TV stars, public speakers, government officials, the everyday glamour girl, supermoms and so many more! I’m a self-taught makeup artist and I’m still determined to follow my dreams and make it to the top, all while making the world beautiful one face at a time! Over the lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic, I even picked up a new hobby that will eventually expand my services. So along with being an entrepreneur and master makeup artist, I have also decided to go back to school to become a licensed nail technician! I plan to eventually take the beauty industry by storm in every way possible… with the Lord’s guidance and my family’s encouragement! ??
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all (lol)!! There have definitely been many struggles and obstacles along the way, but I stayed strong and paid my dues! I can recall working at MAC Cosmetics and absolutely hating it! There was absolutely no room for me to grow due to a particular supervisor with a personal vendetta again those he did not like. I happen to fall into that category, which was hell for me! It got so bad one day to the point that I walked out, but I never allowed that situation to define my career path! I can name a few more obstacles, but I’m also in the process of putting together a makeup manual for those wanting to enter the beauty industry. I want to make others aware of certain obstacles I’ve faced so that they’ll know what to expect as well as what not to accept on the road to success!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a master makeup artist, I recall always having to purchase eyelashes, and I’ve never been the type to take the inexpensive route for my dear clients, so how much I’d spend on eyelashes would quickly add up! One day, I got completely fed up and decided to step out on faith and start my own eyelash brand Winx Couture Lashes! I launched the business in the summer of 2019, and before I knew it, the higher-ups at Bella Salon (my employer) met with me to discuss selling the brand at the salon, and just like that, my business grew like crazy!! I’m very much known for my eyelashes, as well as how particular I am with doing eyebrows. Typically, that’s how many of my clients can tell when I’ve done another person’s makeup, just from the brows alone. I’m most proud of how well I’ve remained grounded throughout my career and how much I’m still always willing to learn! I definitely feel as if that sets me apart from others! I’m also very encouraging when it comes to up and coming artists! I’m always willing to mentor, as long as I don’t feel like I’m being used for my expertise!
